Throughout my life, I have purchased numerous Hal Leonard instructional music instrument books to help myself and others learn how to play various instruments using Hal Leonard methods, and always get value from them. I was first introduced to the Hal Leonard guitar method of learning way back when I started taking lessons years ago, and I've continued to buy many of his books since then, because I tend to give them away to other learners as I think Hal Leonard books are so useful. If you're interested in getting into learning guitar, be a buyer, Hal Leonard won't let you down.
Clear and concise, the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1 provides a solid basis for learning guitar on your own or with an instructor. Importantly, the lessons, which are supported by clear visuals and streamlined text, are short and focused. As a result, even the novice is not overwhelmed.
Excellent book. Kinda nice that they teach you the notes on a string one at a time. However right after you learn the 4th string it skips to a couple chords and then resumes to learning the 5th string about 10 pages later. Just make sure you use the table of contents. You need to skip around at times for a more logical flow. Also, it would be nice if scales were in the book which incorperated what you learned thus far. I got these from my guitar teacher. I feel the book is really good but it is missing just a little something. I would still recommend it over other books I have seen.
Great book for adult beginners
I am taking guitar lessons at 70 years old. The book is clear and takes things slowly. I have a teacher and he recommended this book.
Great learning tool for beginner or intermediate players who have very little theory background
I've been using this book for 10 years with students ranging in age from 1st grade through 8th and really like the clear introduction to the notes and chords and basic music theory. I also appreciate that it is not dumbed down like some of the newer releases.
