I’m in nursing school currently taking my AP1 class. This coloring book was a lifesaver when it comes to remembering the bones and cells. I started using it and it helped me pass my midterm and I can’t wait to see what my scores will be once I go to take my finals. 10/10 for me. Working on nervous system now and it makes it so much easier to understand.
The photos do not look like the typical coloring book drawings with plenty of spaces to color. The drawings are serious drawings of anatomy. Very informative and will help people remember what is what and where. At the beginning of the book are instructions for coloring, such as what minimum colors of colored pencils one should use; please don't ignore those instructions. Not everything in a drawing is colored on each page. I highly recommend this for an anatomy student or anyone interested in learning anatomy a fun way.
I purchased this book to help me memorize the muscles for my muscle practical exam. I was very impressed when I started looking through the pages. The authors of this book have really paid attention to the details. Here are the PROS and CONS of this book to help give you a better idea of what to expect: PROS: - This book contains all of the muscles that I needed to study for my muscle practical exam. This is important because I also purchased another anatomy coloring book at the same time that I purchased this one, and that book was missing some of the muscles. - This book not only gives you the muscles to color, but it also helps you pay attention to the spelling of each muscle because it gives you the option to color the letters. Spelling is very important in the practical exams because we would lose points for spelling something incorrectly. - The illustrations are shaded with hatching lines and dots, and are shaded in a way that makes it easier to visualize the 3-dimensional structures that these drawings are meant to represent. - This book shows both deep and superficial muscles, and it shows them from different angles. - This book gives you visual examples of the muscles in action such as when a person is walking, lifting weights, riding a horse, etc. It also gives examples of how tight muscles affect flexibility and posture. I think it's amazing that the authors have chosen to include these examples because it makes it easier to memorize and understand the muscles, since it provides context. - Throughout the chapter, there are review pages that show you images of the muscles from different angles and ask you to write out their names. This is great because it allows you to test yourself on what you have learned. CONS - There is only one CON that I think this book has, but it's nothing major. My only criticism of this book is that the longer descriptions of the different anatomy terms are worded in a confusing way. They're basic terms that would be easy to understand if I read about them in an anatomy textbook, but I find that I have to read the descriptions more than once when I'm reading about them in this book. I don't consider this problematic though, because I already have my anatomy textbook to study from. The reason that most people buy anatomy coloring books isn't to read about anatomy, but instead to color the anatomy in order to memorize the material better. I think this book does an excellent job as an anatomy coloring book. I have attached some images of pages from this book that will help you get a better idea of what this book offers. I also included an image comparing a page from this book to a page from another anatomy coloring book that I purchased. The reason I'm including this image is because I read some reviews saying that the shading makes the illustrations look confusing, but I have to disagree with that. I think the shading is done nicely and I like that it's being used to enhance the 3-dimensional aspects of the anatomical parts that are being represented. It is much easier to understand because it doesn't look flat. In contrast, the other coloring book has cleaner lines because it doesn't have much hatching, but I think that's a drawback, since it makes the illustrations harder to understand. It might look fine aesthetically, but it's not very good as a learning tool, which is what this type of book is supposed to be. I think it's better when the illustrations contain thin hatching lines to represent the direction of the muscle fibers, while thicker lines are used to separate the muscles from one another. This is why I like the shading in this book, and I think it makes the illustrations clearer, instead of harder to understand. If you're going to buy an anatomy coloring book, I think this is a very good one to get. You can also take a look at the images that I have attached to see if this book is right for you.
