I first found this book when it was in Kindle edition, and wanted to use it in my classroom, so when it came out in paperback I was so excited! This is a beautiful book, and it is well written, with an amazing connection to the physical laws in the title. I used it with all my students, from my special education students as a learning tool, to my AP students as a review resource. Everyone loved it, and the stories have been used by all my students as a great learning tool! My special education students used this as an inspiration to learn how other physical laws operate, and to create similar resources, my AP students loved using this to refresh their memories of what they learned at the beginning of the course in a different form, and the format was a very fun way of going through the review process and got them very involved in something that is usually a slog (AP review is never fun!). I love this and the entire series, and will be using them every year!
An easy to read fairy tale, presented with the three basic laws conceived by Newton. I enjoyed reading it. And as a result, downloaded some of Ms. Allen's other books. I love the way she breaks down the science into something that even a layman can understand. I do recommend this book.
Good story for young kids. Hard to read if you're a writing teacher. Lots of grammar and storyline issues.
That was good. Nicely written, clear illustrations of the laws, and decent, understandable explanations of the physics after the story was finished. It also links to some fun games that demonstrate the laws, and interesting videos. The story is engaging enough to keep an older child interested, simple enough to keep a younger child from getting lost in the concepts. It's a solid foundation for making the more complex fundamentals of physics relate-able.
Bought as a gift
Thank you, thank you, thank you! My nine-year-old read this book in one sitting. Thank you so much, Sarah Allen, for providing a fictional tale intertwined with science concepts for kids. I’m always searching for science resources that aren’t the typical boring textbook, which is harder than one might think. It’s easy to find historical fiction for kids and even fictional book series for elementary math concepts. Fictional science books that actually present good information, however, are much more difficult to find. This went hand-in-hand with school lessons and provided a break from monotonous lesson plans. I will definitely recommend this book to other parents.
Bought these for 10 yr. old granddaughter she is pretty sharp but I read them, might be a little beyond her. She will be ready for them next year. Good for kids into science
Need a great gift for a science teacher - especially one who teaches physics? Look no further. Purchase all three!
