The must-listen New York Times bestseller that's redefining hospitality and inspiring people in every industry. - Featured in FX's The Bear and Showtime's Billions - JP Morgan NextList Pick Will Guidara was twenty-six when he took the helm of Eleven Madison Park, a struggling two-star brasserie that had never quite lived up to its majestic room. Eleven years later, EMP was named the best restaurant in the world.
How did Guidara pull off this unprecedented transformation? Radical reinvention, a true partnership between the kitchen and the dining room—and memorable, over-the-top, bespoke hospitality. Guidara’s team surprised a family who had never seen snow with a magical sledding trip to Central Park after their dinner; they filled a private dining room with sand, complete with mai-tais and beach chairs, to console a couple with a cancelled vacation.
And his hospitality extended beyond those dining at the restaurant to his own team, who learned to deliver praise and criticism with intention; why the answer to some of the most pernicious business dilemmas is to give more—not less; and the magic that can happen when a busser starts thinking like an owner. Today, every business can choose to be a hospitality business—and we can all transform ordinary transactions into extraordinary experiences. Featuring sparkling stories of his journey through restaurants, with the industry’s most famous players like Daniel Boulud and Danny Meyer, Guidara urges us all to find the magic in what we do—for ourselves, the people we work with, and the people we serve.

Must read for restaurant aficionados. So much insight not only of the restaurant world but also on how to go above and beyond for your clients and team members.
You might think this book is only for restaurateurs or hotel owners but we all should practice hospitality. This book explain what that is and how to improve it, not to generate more revenue but for the joy of serving others. And that is the main point that I take from this book, serving others is something we all need to do and has meaning and weight, it goes beyond price or luxury. Great unexpected read.
I love reading leadership books and really enjoyed this because it was a story of how it was implemented in restaurants instead of just regurgitating research and numbers. There seemed to be genuine enthusiasm about over delivering. Yes he talks about hospitality industry but the lessons can easily be applied to any leadership scenario. Easy read, entertaining and I learned more about the restaurant biz so that was a plus
The story of this restaurateur’s struggle and climb to be best in the world is inspiring and a good read. And more importantly, the principles he discusses can be so easily transferred to about any business or vocation to inspire excellence. I thought it was a bit of a slow start, and maybe just a bit too long, but I enjoyed reading it from beginning to end
Recommend this book for any professional who serves clients in some form, especially outside of hospitality. We read this book at our Wealth Management firm and it was well-received. Great stories to highlight the obvious, but often forgotten, ways to make clients feel extra special.
So much fantastic advice! Doesn’t matter what industry you are in, this book will help you elevate it to the next level!
A fun, educational, and pleasant read. I am not at all a foodie but found the book really informative and it certainly has impacted how I approach eating out as well as how to manage key relationships.
