Post. Reply …Most of us have gotten so used to notifications and alerts, pings and rings, that even if we don't want to be on our phones so much, we don't know what to do about it. The constant flow of information affects our brains, relationships, and emotional well-being.
We feel stuck, overwhelmed, overstimulated, and we want a way out. Like many of us, podcaster and author Carlos Whittaker had lived for years in an always-on , always-connected world—and he felt more disconnected than ever from God, his community, and even himself. When Carlos Whittaker realized how many hours he was on his phone, he took extreme measures to see how unplugging could change his body and soul.
In Reconnected , Carlos shares the challenges, surprises, and profound insights of his self-imposed exile from technology, spending nearly two months screen-free at a monastery, an Amish farm, and at home. As you journey with Carlos through this life-changing experiment you will discover: how to retrain yourself to notice the world before you notice your texts; what technology does to your brain and what you can do about it; ways to prioritize in-person relationships even if you need screens for work or school; why turning down your phone's volume turns up God's voice in your life; the newfound joy of being bored, getting lost, and not having to Google every question that comes to your mind. Blending wisdom from the past, practices of intentionality and community, and Whittaker's signature engaging communication style, Reconnected will inspire and equip you to reset your life in a tech-saturated world.

I love his positive message and feel like it is so important for people to hear especially in a world full of division.
Carlos Whittaker is a master storyteller. I had a hard time putting this book down. It has helped me start to change my relationship with my phone. I am definitely more mindful of the time I am spending staring at my screen and have asked myself more than once "is this how I want to be spending this time?" Sometimes the answer is no, but sometimes it is yes. I ordered a copy for a friend who I know will love it too! Great read!
Carlos gives so many great insights and helps inspire everyone to look beyond their phones through his masterful storytelling
In 2022, Carlos Whittaker spent 7 days being completely screen free - no phone, no computer, no t.v, no screens. He spent two weeks at a monastery, two weeks working on an Amish farm, and three weeks at home with his family. As part of this experience, he also worked with a doctor to get before & after scans of his brain to see if the screen-free time had any impact. This book will hit most people right in the gut. Doing the math on how much time is spent with electronics is eye-opening, and the real first point of the book to stop and do some self-reflection on how we currently prioritize and use our own time. Through Carlos's experiment and experience, he reflected on several aspects of life that society has been missing out on. I paused mid-way through the book to reflect and make immediate adjustments to my electronic notifications. I also have a list of some key words that are great topics to focus on and remember, especially as I am tempted to grab my phone and spend some time looking at electronics. This book makes you think! I can't wait to get a hard copy and highlight and take notes, reassess any progress I've made at that point, and continue to reflect on the role that screens play in my life.
I finished the book in two days and then handed to my husband and am sending a copy to my college-age daughter. Thoughtful and compelling and practical—I am hopeful that we can start to have real conversations and actions instigated by Carlos’ experiences and his approachable telling of his story.
Everyone needs to get a copy and read it. Carlos is an influencer, a speaker, a storyteller and he stepped away from his phone and all screens entirely for seven weeks…and he shares all the raw and vulnerable and beautiful moments from those weeks with the reader. He did the big scary thing, he came back from it, and shared it all with the world, and the world needs to hear about it. To hear that it’s possible to break the addiction to screens and social and phones. To hear that you can have a life with screens instead of screens running your life. Every story and moment is so well told, described, and real…it’s like you’re there with him. I can’t say enough good things about the material, the writing, the lessons, or the incredible ease of reading this book. Just get a copy and dive in.
This book was an excellent read. Carlos does an amazing job helping the reader feel as if you’re on the journey with him learning how to reconnect with people outside of our screens. Not once does he make you feel guilty for using a phone/screen, but be prepared to WANT to be on your phone less so you can experience the freedom Carlos found. I loved it! Masterfully written and the message was heartfelt.
Devoured the book in just a couple of days. A must read for anyone who feels disconnected from their experiences and like the world is passing them by. Carlos locks in on how to reconnect with our worlds and communities in a way that doesn't disregard the incredible technology of our phones, rather by helping us put them back in their rightful place. Love that each chapter has beautiful stories, humor, genuine lessons and then a couple really tangible and applicable ways to put in the work in our own lives. @loswhit has done it again.
