Getting involved with your brother’s best friend is risky enough. But when he's a hockey player? It's a whole new level of bad idea.
As a ravenous reader, I’ve got a secret: I’m obsessed with hockey romances. But let me tell you, real life hockey players are nothing like my book boyfriends. So I threw down the gauntlet on BookTok.
I challenged any single guy out there to prove me wrong. Can a real hockey player be as romantic as the ones in my favorite stories? Enter Dawson Hayes, a goalie with a point to prove and my brother’s best friend.
He’s confident he can win me over and take me on the most romantic date of my life. But there’s a catch: for me to accept, I have to pretend that he’s my fake boyfriend. And while he’s unfairly gorgeous, he’s also my brother’s teammate and his best friend.
Keeping him in the fake boyfriend zone is the only way to deal with my secret attraction. Turns out, the line between fake and real isn't just blurry, it’s become impossible to tell the difference when he looks at me with those eyes that say, You’re mine. DAWSON The first time I met Emmy, her brother warned me to stay away.

When the moment of truth comes, the chemistry between us turns into something neither of us expected: A romantic face-off between friends who are insanely attracted to each other. A funny, sweet hockey romance - I'm not a hockey fan yet really enjoyed this story! It's fun to watch him try to prove he's romantic while keeping it a fake relationship.
Reader’s Notes: – this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone – this is told from Emmy & Dawson’s points of view Review: I adored this brother’s best friend romance! I loved that Dawson wanted to do all he could to win Emmy’s heart and was willing to take notes on book boyfriends’ gestures for her. I loved that Emmy tried her best to barricade her heart from what she thought would be sure heartbreak, but of course that didn’t go as planned. I also loved the book club members and especially Mimi’s mischievous nature throughout! XD Summary: Emmy lives in Maple Falls and loves her life there beyond the unwanted advances from her workplace owner’s son. The only problem is that Maple Falls is small and not known for its eligible bachelors. Her only options to find someone would be to leave, find a date online, or entertain falling for one of the hockey guys coming for the charity team. Though the last option really isn’t one with how her hockey player brother warned her against a relationship with any hockey player years ago. Though the only person who could make Emmy possibly defy her brother’s wishes also happens to be his best friend… and one of the players coming for the charity team… Dawson fell for his best friend’s sister when he first met her, but thought Emmy hated him. Now that he’s back in Maple Falls, Dawson is determined to shoot his shot and show Emmy how much he cares for her. Even if it means taking lessons from her favorite book boyfriends to give him an extra boost…
So sweet!!!! I loved this book! Dawson is just perfection! How he does everything to show Emmy how much she means to him😍 Emmy herself is a secret booktok. Dawson and Emmy start messaging unknowingly it's the other person. Gives me all the You've Got Mail vibe and I am all for it! I loved their story! Now excuse me while I go read the rest of the series! I received an ARC for this but this is my honest review.
Love the book 😊 sweet and funny book. Loved Dawson and Emmy together. It was easy to read, and it was a perfect book to the series. Looking forward to read the next books in the series.
Shewie! What a fabulous ride! Grace Worthington scores a fabulous goal with this amazing story about the bookish girl making a match with a Hockey Jock. The fact that Dawson fell first and harder, and that he goes out of his way to prove his love to Emmy, and prove to her that he really is the man for her. So many fabulous scenes in this book, and so many heartwarming ways that Dawson is THE perfect man for Emmy. *chef's kiss* I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Romance, sweet, contemporary, sports, hockey; series but stand alone read Dawson and Emerson/Emmie’s story is a sweet lovely fall. Meeting in the past, they make a dating pact. When Dawson returns they become more. Emmie has a hard time seeing beyond the short time he’s in town, but Dawson works on building their forever one gesture and moment at a time. Love the small town setting, some fun supporting characters, and cameo’s from other characters in this series.
What a sweet and swoony brother’s best friend romance! I loved the flashback to when Dawson and Emmy met and the time they shared at the Halloween party. Poor Dawson, sidelined by Emmy right away because he was a hockey player and her brother specifically warned her off of hockey players! I loved the way that Dawson pursued Emmy a few years later, making a specific effort to do those things that would mean the most to her. Paying attention to what was important to her and showing that he valued her. He was determined without being pushy. Emmy struggled to let go of her fears and actually allow herself to trust in the possibility of love. She was definitely a bit stuck in life, putting her needs behind everyone else’s. I liked the way Dawson put her first. The Friend Face Off is a sweet and fun addition to the Love on Thin Ice series. All of the books in this series can be read as stand alone novels, too. (4.5 stars) I received a complimentary copy of this book, however, I also preordered my own ebook copy.
Can a quiet bookstore manager who lives in a small town and takes care of her grandmother find a man who can rival a book boyfriend? Apparently Emmy can and with her brother's best friend Dawson. It's a hockey romance with a little hockey and a whole lot of romancing. Fun story, funny dialog, and sweet ending.
