1960s when a person could cover bad dealings. The plot kept me reading to find the way hot water could kill a person
It was well written and not dry. The characters really came to life.b I plan to read more books by Mr Miraldi
The author did a thorough job of re-creating the actual trial, though he did disclose some research he did not have. I found the book flowed seamlessly. I am also impressed with the son's drive as the Defense Attorney Miraldi is the author's father. However, there was a lot of repetition, and I found myself skimming pages. David Miraldi got me hooked. I felt the jury got the verdict right, untill the final twist. Mr. Miraldi portrayed well what this final twist did to his Dad. Besides, the repetition, Miraldi presents a huge cast. This made getting into the book difficult as it was a task to keep the characters straight. Overall, a great effort and a touching memorable to his Dad. Worthwhile
Took me a while to get through this book. It was frustrating and sad. I read it as if Bennet was innocent. The details of each attorney and Bennet ' s life, got over played ( my opinion ). Summing up, I did skip some of the longer attorney speaches, and finished the book. Surprise, just wait for it!
The book was interesting and well written , and tribute to those lawyers who really worked hard on both sides
Loved this book from beginning to end. Well researched and superbly written. It is somewhat historical in nature and at times you question the legal rules governing trial history but then you remember rules have changed a great deal as this story predates Miranda. I generally dislike copious detail but this story is an exception. It drew me into the story to the point I found myself sometimes rereading detail to assure I was fully understanding of what was transpiring. First book I’ve read in quite some time that kept me riveted throughout.
Spoiler alert: I felt from the beginning Casper was guilty. I think the palm burns were from holding her head under water causing her legs to pop up. God knows the truth and he will meet his maker. This is a very interesting read with unsettling news of how Mrs Bennett died.
Well written and suspenseful. Makes one think and rethink justice and bias. Enjoyed the book, would recommend to others although sometimes repetitive.
