A world-class whodunit." —Stephen King “An extremely successful high-wire act, balancing between dark comedy and darker thrills.” —Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Laugh-out-loud funny, thrilling and twisty...” —Liane Moriarty, #1 New York Times bestselling author "A lot of thrillers these days use the murder podcast as a plot device. This production simulates one better than any audiobook I’ve listened to, to an often hilarious effect. Also, January LaVoy expertly voices one of Lucy’s funniest tics: imagining how she would murder nearly every person with whom she comes in contact."— Vulture "Narrator January LaVoy is a treat to listen to, as she gives Lucy the sardonic tone she needs as she grapples with life.
LaVoy is also a genius in the way she gives life to Lucy's inner voice—a psychological shoulder demon who wants to solve every issue with ... "let's kill him."— The Berkshire Eagle "Narrator LaVoy absolutely shines as the broken yet charmingly cheeky heroine. Her tale is organically intermixed with podcast excerpts delivered in honeyed and wry tones by Will Damron, each bookended by delightful 'podcasty' melodies."— Booklist What if you thought you murdered your best friend?
And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter? After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer.
Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town.
It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen. A Macmillan Audio production from Celadon Books.

I really enjoyed the mix of pod cast with the story. Also enjoyed the surprise turn of events. Great read.!!
I didn’t hate this book. I finished it, although it took me longer than I would like to admit. The story is kind of slow moving and takes some pretty predictable turns. I cut the book in half and get to the ending sooner and I would have given it five stars! It went on for about 15 chapters longer than necessary and truth be told I thought the author missed an opportunity to give us a different ending in the last chapter. She hinted towards it, but didn’t close the loop. You will like it if you like the classic who done it, with a sarcastic main character and everyone having a ton of secrets that add really nothing to the plot.
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. We follow Lucy who is believed to have killed her best friend. She was found walking in the streets covered in Savanah’s blood. She was not charged bc there was not enough evidence. She leaves her small town in Texas and relocates to California. However, 5 years later and true crime podcaster tried to solve her case on air… reopening her case and putting her back in the public’s eye. This is a funny thriller novel. I don’t read a lot in this genre so the amnesia trope did not bother me. I found that the story well written. It’s a who did it kinda vibe… overall it’s a fun read! #listenforthelieamytintera #amytinterabook #bookreviews #bookstagram #bookworm #booklover #booknerd #needbookrecommendations
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera Rating — ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Format — 🎧 Profile — @booksofabaker Read if you like — 🎙️True-crime podcasts 👥Multiple POV 🌪️Twists and turns 🗓️Dual timelines Favorite quotes — “I’m the relative that you tell everyone about at parties, when you’re comparing fucked-up families. I make for a good story. You don’t invite me to the party.” “I seriously don’t understand developing a drinking problem in your seventies,” “Why not? Way I see it, seems like the perfect time to develop a drinking problem. It’s dull as hell around here.” “Better to be interesting than likable, in my opinion.” My thoughts — If you need a bingeable thriller, look no further. What if you thought you murdered your best friend…and so does everyone else in your home town? That’s what happened to Lucy Chase — the problem is she can’t remember anything from that night. But Ben Owens, host of the Listen for the Lie podcast, is confident in his ability to help uncover the truth by interviewing witnesses and getting an exclusive look into Lucy’s perspective. This book was captivating all the way through and the ending completely caught me off guard. We get to see first hand how your mind plays tricks when you’ve gone through a traumatic experience…but who can you trust if you can’t even trust yourself? There was so much scandal and drama uncovered that left me guessing up until the very end, and I could not for the life of me figure out who did it. I absolutely love books like this (either that or I’ve been out of the thriller game for too long 🤪). I found myself audibly cackling at Lucy’s sarcasm in serious situations, as she is constantly being judged and picked apart, so why not make light of a bad situation? Her grandma was the real star of the show, though. I want to be her when I grow up — that woman knows how to LIVE. An unbothered queen who knows what she wants, and knows what’s right. Personally, I think incorporating a teeny bit more romance/tension would have enhanced the story and characters even more. Although I wasn’t expecting it in the first place, it was there and it had so much potential to kick the plot up a notch. This is coming from a romance girlie though, so take that with a grain of salt😅 Reader experience — I would recommend listening to the audiobook for this one, I paired it with the e-book and it’s an ✨experience✨. I felt like I was watching a movie. Seriously, grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy🍿
I found this book to be a fascinating read. I found myself deeply pulled in from the very beginning. I kept going because, well simply put, I just couldn’t wait for the next twist. The story was so complex and fascinating that I just couldn’t put it down. This book is highly recommended, trust me you will not be disappointed!
“And people hate that quality in a young woman, don’t they? They don’t know what to do with a girl who isn’t looking for their approval. They feel like they have to bring her down a peg.” Five years ago, Lucy was found wandering the streets of her small Texas hometown covered in Savvy’s blood without any recollection of what transpired between the two best friends. Despite all the proof that Lucy murdered Savvy, the police lacked sufficient evidence to make an arrest. Although Lucy was never charged, that didn’t stop her family and friends from coming to a verdict in her close-knit community. Desperate to start over, Lucy left her big house and dreamboat husband in hopes of greater anonymity in Los Angeles. Everything changes with this cold case thanks to the popular true crime podcast, “Listen for the Lie.” Ben Owens, the podcast’s handsome host, makes Savvy’s murder his crime to solve in the show’s second season and Lucy finds she has no choice but to return to the place she vowed never to come home to. This is a fun, dark, twisty whodunnit with a strong, sharp-tongued FMC who doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. In fact, Lucy’s as committed to finding Savvy’s killer as Ben is, even if it means it really is her. Besides, she’s become used to the fact everyone thinks she’s a murderer. Lucy knows the truth doesn’t matter. It only matters what people believe.
This was an amazing read. I was on pin cushions trying to figure out the truth t Up to the end. It was so entertaining and the main character was complicated, messy, heartbroken, sassy, sarcastic…….everything you don’t realize you want in the heroine. The friendship in this book is in true Thelma and Louise spirit and showed the complex small town life and ridiculously crazy family intricacies.
