When I was a child, I had the entire series of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Books. My babysitter at the time, gave me her set. I was careful to loan out the books one at a time to friends I knew would cherish them as much as I did. I started giving these books to my grandchild, and at first we read them together, then she started reading them on her own. Now, we watch the old television series together, and it brings back memories of our days reading together. We both love the television series as much as we do the books, they portray the life as it was. Maybe not as primitive, but certainly as children , they accept the hard work and the limited income the Wilder's have. This family is a superb e ample if a hapoy family, their ups and downs, and they have many, and the manger in which the family faces each obstacle. An excellent example of a true family life. This was a series of books given as a gift. Great quality and a bookshelf item.
I love this entire series! I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series for anyone who hasn't read them. I first read these as a child, but I still enjoy them as an adult. Even though this is technically book 3, you can read this one first without having any problems missing any back story. This is a real story of a family who went to settle out west and all the challenges they met along the way.
I have deducted 1 star only because of the edition/version that was shipped to me. It is the 75th anniversary edition; while still nice, the size is slightly smaller in general dimensions from the other 8 books I ordered making my shelf display a little off in appearance. I ended up buying the entire 9 hardcover book series and find they are the perfect size to make a nice display on my shelf. Print quality is nice, and the typeface is easy to read. I'm in my 40s and have loved the TV series since the 80s and find myself rewatching the episodes on Amazon Prime which has sparked my interest to finally sit down to read the books.
Good read...good transition from book 1...yes book 1, as book 2 is about another family.
Bought this as a second in the series for my great granddaughter. I hope to eventually get the set for her. Best children’s books ever. I started reading them in the second grade and bought the series for my children. My 60 year old son is now reading “The Little House in the Big Woods “!
The color illustrations are so helpful for young readers in understanding Laura Engalls Wilder’s wonderful story telling.
A classic book that’s perfect to read aloud to your kids.
