I ordered this because my 13 yo loves the game and I thought it might inspire her to want to learn to cook. I expected it to be more of a meme cookbook than anything and it doesn't disappoint on that front! the illustrations are beautiful! and there are a more than a few paragraphs devoted to the storylines and characters in the game. I did not in any way expect the recipes to be worth actually cooking. I was very surprised then to see how much effort went into turning awful sounding dishes like "Seafoam pudding" into legitimate dishes. The recipes frequently have subtitles, as in the example of seafoam pudding, it's "Congee Rice topped w/ Marinated Fish" already making a more palatable sounding dish! We've only made the Radish Salad so far, but as my wife hates radishes, and really liked it, I'd say it was a solid success. I am an experienced chef, and after reading through these recipes I can say there are only a few that I am not excited about trying. Even the ones making familiar dishes have a couple of unexpected twists that sound really good. So to sum up, if you're a Stardew Valley fan this recipe book is a no-brainer, and if you are a collector of interesting recipe books w/unusual, but enticing twists, this is all a must buy. If I have any quibble it is that most recipes only have an illustrated image of the finished dish and sometimes those illustrations are not accurate. For example, the radish salad illustration depicts herbs that resemble basil in the finished dish, but the recipe calls for dill weed which it definitely does not depict. I don't personally fiond it an issue, but could be confusing for a novice cook.
Great illustrations and references to the game. The recipes are easy to follow and make some delicious food!
The artwork is perfect, the recipes look fun, and are definitely going to make a good challenge with all of the ingredients! Also, the book is very sturdy and a good price! I also love all of the heart put into making the character's personality come through!
I'm always a little skeptical of "merch", especially as regards quality and attention to detail. This cookbook is an exception. Truly a work of art. It is both true to the spirit of the game and a collection of excellent and original recipes.
I love the recipes! Just looking at the real life pictures of the dishes makes my mouth water! The instructions are simple yet detailed, the ingredients you need are bolded, and all the ingredients seem so easy to find in stores! The art is so cute, too, and I love the side notes! Just about every dish comes with a note from whoever’s kitchen it comes from! No animal meat, just fish, veggies, and good ingredients! I’m really interested in seeing what the Strange Bun actually tastes like!
I'm obsessed with Stardew Valley. I've logged at least 2500 hours into the game on Steam, definitely more if I were to track offline/other console play. This cookbook is such a cute and fun way to fulfill the desire to eat all the dishes available in that game. There's even a strange bun recipe! More than that, though, the thought, care, and attention to detail put into this book is fantastic. It's really cute to flip to the pink cake page, for example, and see Hailey gushing about how much she loves it. The recipes are solid, easy to follow, and great for individuals of all cooking skill levels to have some fun with - Even if I can't actually get a stardrop irl.
Loved the artwork, the creative recipes and the showcase of different characters from the game! This may be a little challenging to a total beginner, but the book is excellent at not skipping any steps so you feel supported even on a more advanced recipe. Even if this weren't a celebration to the video game, this cookbook would be an incredible addition to your daily cookbook pile! Love that it is all pescatarian!
I love Stardew, so I got this mostly as a fun piece of memorabilia. I was not expecting what a wonderful actual cookbook this is! The quality of the book itself is top notch; I believe it will be pretty sturdy and not prone to falling apart. The artwork is gorgeous and the recipes are creative (and look delicious). There’s even a Mr. Qi challenge you can do. This turned out to be a great book for fans of Stardew OR just people who like cooking!
