I got this for my son who is searching for the kind of career he wants to pursue. He took the assessment and is looking forward to reading the book. I think it gave him a much needed start to the path of finding and pursuing a career he loves. I have had some recent transition in my business and have to move some employees around to fill some gaps. I just bought two more copies of this to have them take the career assessment. I know it will help me get them in the right position in my company to help them feel more fulfilled and help us serve our customers even better.
This is one of those books that after I read it, I told people that work for me they needed to read it as well. I end up handing out copies of a couple of the people. That's rare for me, to find a book that was that impactful. I wish I read it 25 years ago when I was graduating college, but better late than never. I think this is wonderful for any age. It has a very unique perspective that I have not seen anywhere else, and the quiz / test that comes with it really does help you read this book and apply it to you in your life.
Basically this book "helps" you figure out your likes and dislikes. In no way shape or form does it point you towards a field of work. It told me I like working with my hands and I don't like people. Already knew that.
I found the results of the test to be spot on - particularly the “talent traps to avoid” on my top talents were a bit convicting 😅 the book says all jobs can be broken into 4 categories “people oriented, idea oriented, process oriented, and object oriented” and while i can think of some obvious careers for each category, it would be immensely helpful to have a list of example careers, perhaps lesser known job titles, for each category. Your results will have a couple job categories your talents and passions are best suited to but now it’s up to me to find “idea” jobs and I haven’t the faintest idea 🤷♀️ a Google search for idea oriented jobs doesn’t yield results as these four job buckets is something Coleman coined, so it feels incomplete to not show a list of jobs sorted into those buckets.
I LOVE the Dave Ramsey show and Ken Coleman is one of my favorite personalities on the show. I'm not a spring chicken, so I wanted to get this book to start thinking about future careers after I retire from my current teaching job. I believe the book was very accurate in assessing my strengths and areas of interest, but where I felt it was lacking was a list of potential jobs that would fit into the strengths and passions, even if it was just a link to a website with more information. I truly feel this book would be 100% better if it included that. I don't want to see that "justice" is an area without seeing some potential jobs that would fit. I just feel like the book needs more substance. Sorry Ken :(
bought for my 30-something son who is looking for a career change. He says the assessment was great and he had some surprising results. but after reading the details, he agrees with the assesment
First, let me address some comments about the code not working. I bought the hardcover book from Amazon, and when I used my cell phone to access the web address supplied in the book, all it did was take me to the Ramsey website, and then I was lost; there needed to be direction from there. The next day I used my work desktop, and I typed in the web address; it took me straight to the assessment, where I entered the code. I'm trying to understand why that happened on my cell phone, however. I thought it was just me, but Ramsey/Coleman need to figure that part out. The assessment was spot-on and very helpful as a career guide. And, when I did reach out to Ramsey.com, someone did respond less than 24-hours.
"Find the Work You're Wired to Do" is a compelling and insightful book that truly resonated with me. The author masterfully combines practical advice with introspective exercises, helping readers identify their unique strengths, passions, and values. What I appreciated most is how the book doesn’t just focus on finding any job but emphasizes discovering a career that aligns with who you are at your core. The author's guidance on navigating challenges and overcoming doubts was particularly valuable, making the process feel achievable rather than overwhelming. The real-life examples and stories added depth and relatability, showing that the journey to finding fulfilling work is different for everyone. Whether you’re at a career crossroads or just starting out, this book is a fantastic resource for anyone seeking meaningful, purpose-driven work. Highly recommended for anyone ready to explore their true potential!
