Love the book. It is super useful. I have learned a lot and went from being an absolute piano beginner to a beginner-intermediate in one month. I'm not self-taught, though. I had 2 days a week of class instruction that I also paid for from my university. This book is great, although it omits some things (mostly body positions) like when is the left or right hand is being used or switched during exercises, that I am not supposed to stretch my thumbs to notes farther away (bad form when learning I guess), as well as where the heck to place one's thumbs when both thumbs are supposed to be hovering above Center C. As for the physical state of the book, I could tell that it was tightly packed (felt like it was vacuum sealed) to prevent the book from getting bent during shipment. However, the tightly-packing machine that the book probably went through also cinched the top leftmost corner spiral of the book. I tried to rebend the spiral back to shape, but I guess that machine was really strong. This bent spiral messed with the turning of the book's pages. Subsequently, the book looked quite beat up from weekly use, and it was difficult for me to wrangle the book's pages into a shape I could read and learn from. Nonetheless, I am grateful and thankful I got this book.

I've used books from Alfred's collection in the past and found them fairly good for learning with or without a teacher. If you look at the second image I shared with parts of Amazing Grace on it, you get a good idea of what they're trying to do and to me it is brilliant that they're teaching these aspects so early in the pianist's learning process. These will build good habits as a result. If you notice they have both L.H. and R.H. next to the numbers in the book. You will also notice that the numbers are up and down around the words, and this is laying out the groundwork for paying attention to the way the music is flowing up and down the staff. Not only is it doing that, but by showing you the finger numbers you get an early subconscious introduction to how Intervals work. Of course, the very fact that they have you playing with both hands from the start is also very good for building that foundation. I'm currently at Page 60 and I do not see any real issues learning this on your own, but if you have questions there are plenty of forums, Facebook groups, reddit groups, or other ways to find your answers. Honestly, the little details that I had to learn the hard way, make all the difference in this book and they really set it apart as one of the better beginners' books for learning. I know some people are upset about the pieces that are included, but honestly, I find they're appropriate for beginners and if you're struggling with those, you can pick up the supplemental book (Adult Piano Adventures Popular Book 1) for more modern pieces, or the classical supplement. Either way, the book is appropriate and if you find you're beyond those pieces, then maybe you should start with a different book in the series. Overall, I'm fairly impressed with the books flow and information... I would recommend this to anyone just starting out as an adult beginner.

Great for self learners or with teacher

Great book. I love how it progresses and helps learners start playing classical pieces from the start. I like the teacher duets. I like how it starts with just fingering. Not how I learned but really good for adults. First day, I had my husband play a duet with me! There are also QR codes for students to hear the pieces. I love this book!

Easy to follow

Easy to follow lessons, including practice drills and theory. I especially like the scan code at the end of each piece where I can see and hear the piece played. As I do not have a teacher and I'm doing this on my own, it helps if something in the tab doesn't make sense to me. Also nice that it is spiral bound, making it easier to keep flat on the piano.
