I can not recommend this book enough. I've been in peri-menopause for about a year and half already so I've listened, read, visited doctor's and been on hormone replacement therapy for over a year already. This book laid out so much easily, clearly and offered a variety of solutions and tools we can all do. I even had my 72 year old mother read it to help clarify what she went through and answer questions on WHY her body felt the way it did and importantly HOW / WHY it broke down in a variety of ways after! All women read this.
very informative book I learned a lot it’s a must have for a woman going through Minneapolis
This book. I have read it and am reading it, again! I have bought it for friends and begged all the women in my life to read it. I was never prepared for this season of life and when one symptom at a time hit me, I never once thought, "Oh, this is the beginning of the menopause transition!" Instead, I was researching each symptom as it came and trying to navigate it in isolation while also worrying - Do I have early onset dementia? Am I going to go bald? Am I just gonna be overweight as I get older? Is sweating all night just a part of getting older? Is sleep just going to be next to impossible now? Etc., etc., etc. All of the symptoms were rooted in the same thing - the gradual loss of hormones. It all made sense, thanks to this book, and I learned tons more that I had never been told about. It's a great intro to menopause book, a great return to as a reference book, and a great encouragement on top of everything else!
This is a fantastic book and a great reference, BUT there are no in text citations according to any style guide. This is constructive feedback. I do truly appreciate this book and Dr. Haver. I bought this book because my doctors don't understand or know this research, but without the references to the research, as a non doctor, I can't prove to them that what I know is correct (what do I know, I don't have a formal medical education or doctorate). I shouldn't need to redo her research so I have proof to share with my physician. There is a reference list by chapter, but again, it's a lot of work and I can't always access the articles without a paid subscription to research journals (hence the need to follow basic research writing guidelines). I don't think MDs have to write a dissertation so the author may not know this, but this is a little lazy and hurts the credibility of this work. I'm surprised the copyeditor didn't insist this was needed.
This book has been such a helpful resource as I’ve navigated through this wacky menopausal journey. I appreciated the chapter on how to talk to my doctor about labs I wanted and felt prepared to discuss my HRT options with her, after reading this book. I’ve shared this book with so many folks and have talked to my husband about what I’ve leaned too. The toolkit section is super helpful also, as it discusses an immense amount of symptoms that we could experience, and what to do to help relieve those symptoms. I’m so appreciative of this book and the suggestions it offers, the research that’s been done to help us, and most importantly that this topic has become more openly discussed so that we women have options. Let’s face it, menopause affects all of us in some capacity. We’re either going to go through it ourselves, or we have women in our lives who will go through it. Better to be armed with facts and helpful advice for smoother sailing through this stage of life. Highly recommend!
So well written, easy to understand, comprehensive but not overwhelming. Eye opening and empowering. Dr. Haver has compiled some valuable information that all women need. I read this book after a futile gyno appointment. I now feel equipped to move on and see light at the end of a dark tunnel. I really can’t say enough good about this book and am so appreciative and happy I found it. I did read many other books and listen to numerous podcasts on my journey but this book is the best.
I highly recommend this book for every woman in their 30s. This book will educate you on what’s to come and how to best prepare for hormonal changes. It’s an engaging book and the best resource!
Great book! The author is really great and is the same person that started the Galveston Diet. I bought that book as well. It has a ton of great advice. I highly recommend!!!
