A great, concise manual with full color pictures and detailed descriptions of the exercises.
The roller massages are self evident without the book — use the roller on the muscles you want to work on. The exercises are pretty basic but incorporate the roller somehow. Often seem to not add much to the exercise. Has decent descriptions and ok pictures. An ok book but not super useful.
I was really impressed with this book because it was clearly designed with a variety of physical concerns in mind. It starts out with with series of guides for each type of exercise or pain you might need to recover from and directs you with page numbers to each individual stretch. This means that instead of randomly rolling around on a roller like I used to to, trying to guess what needed stretching, I can actually get some relief. I'm stretching things I didn't realize I even had. As a result, I don't have to wait two-three days between workouts just to stop hurting. I'm really grateful my friend recommended this book to me.
This is a beautifully done book. The graphics are excellent. There are 200 color photographs. Each exercise has clear, well illustrated instructions. This book is foam roller workouts, however in a couple of exercises, a exercise ball and elastic bands are also used. There are 65 pages of exercises. All are easy to do. It is just a matter of doing them. My favorite part of this book is the Author explains exercises needed to do certain activities. For example, baseball/softball. There are 12 exercises that help you get into shape to play. Pages for each exercise is given. Other activities are general fitness, proper posture, hamstring flexibility, shoulder flexibility, and 7 sports. This book would be great for anyone.
I've been staring at these foam rollers that they sell at my local-I-go-here-always TJ maxx and Marshalls. They were calling to me that it needed to be explored. But before I invested in yet another piece of exercise I don't use, I thought I'd figure it out. The book has a lot of step by step pictures and explanations of why you would do each thing (this is to stretch your xyz, etc.). I was surprised to see some actual exercises for muscle gain- I genuinely thought you just used the foam roller to stretch. Apparently its used a lot in physical therapy. Anyway, I am going to gift this to my mom, she's getting older and there are a lot of floor exercises so I don't have to worry about her falling.
Even if this book had nothing else going for it, it would be worth it for the sheer number of exercises alone. Happily, it has that going for it, and more. A thorough, yet concise, history and benefits of foam rolling begins this workbook, laying the foundations for the steps to follow. A good portion of this book is devoted to telling you how to safely practice foam rolling, what roller to choose, and how to ensure that you're getting the most out of it. In terms of the actual exercises, I'm a huge fan of how the book is laid out. They are divided based on what problem you're trying to take care of (like posture) or what activity you are using these for (such as basketball). Each stretch itself is broken down, step-by-step, with high quality photos illustrating the posture you should be in. The goal of the stretch is also given, along with different variations. Overall, an easy to follow guide for both newbies and long time practitioners.
