I have NOT finished reading this very informative book which has info for intermittent fasting. Fasting research and benefits from amounts of time fasted are included. You never fast if it makes you sick . . . See what you can handle. Always consult with a physician for any advice . . . disclaimer. The author, a doctor, lists foods and the hormones in each.... I will have to update this when I finish reading this book. (It was recommended to me by a customer reading it while waiting for her tires to be fixed at a garage. The library had the book listed in the catalogue but it was missing from the shelf... )
For content, this book gets a 10/10. I'm not kidding when I say everyone needs to know this information. There's not enough general knowledge about fasting and insulin resistance. If you're new to the topics, I think this is a perfect introductory book. Particularly if you're a woman (and if you're a man, you're going to learn a lot, and you should know it! don't be turned off by the title). Pelz goes into just enough physiologic detail to give you the meat, but stays approachable enough that you don't need a degree. The book contains relevant, understandable, and applicable information that will benefit any reader. I knew a lot of this going in and the book was still enlightening and enjoyable. I read and listened to it. The audiobook performance is good, but a bit slow. Highly recommended!
This book is incredibly insightful and truly validates my premise that fasting is incredibly healing. I love all of the information that is so specific to women and their hormones. I’m learning quite a bit from this amazing book.
Makes fasting more of a spiritual endeavor than just a "don't eat for a while". All the same science as other things I've read, but this is better. A more mindful, deeper approach. The only annoying thing is how often she uses the phrase "lean into"...... it became distracting.
I recently went to visit a different doctor to discuss Peri and Menopause. One of my concerns was the weight I was putting on out of nowhere. I felt demoralized because I wasn't doing anything different but weight kept going up. My doctor said "Have you heard of intermittent fasting" I said no and she suggested to look up for Dr Mindy Pelz. So I did. I started watching her videos, listened to her podcasts and I decided to get the book. Well, I want to thank you, Dr Pelz. I have been following your guidance, and not only have I lost 8 pounds since I started IF, but I do have more energy, I feel better. And my hormones are in a much better place. Overall, I love this way of living and eating. And I wish more doctors could offer information on IF because it does transform your life. Thank you! I have pre-ordered Eat Like a Girl and can't wait to get it!
This book is written with a lot of information which is very helpful. It is very detailed and somewhat complex.But I am sure I will get the hang of it.And I am actually losing weight.
