And the dialogue!
You will not be able to drive while listening to it because you'll be laughing way too hard!"— Buzzfeed on The House in the Cerulean Sea Somewhere Beyond the Sea is the hugely anticipated sequel to TJ Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea , one of the best-loved and best-selling fantasy novels of the past decade. A magical house. A secret past.
A summons that could change everything. Arthur Parnassus lives a good life, built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six magical and so-called dangerous children who live there.
Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. And he is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth; Zoe Chapelwhite, the island’s sprite; and her girlfriend, Mayor Helen Webb. Together, they will do anything to protect the children.
But when Arthur is summoned to make a public statement about his dark past, he finds himself at the helm of a fight for the future that his family, and all magical people, deserve. And when a new magical child hopes to join them on their island home—one who finds power in calling himself monster, a name Arthur worked so hard to protect his children from—Arthur knows they’re at a breaking point: their family will either grow stronger than ever or fall apart. Welcome back to Marsyas Island.
This is Arthur’s story. Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a story of resistance, lovingly told, about the daunting experience of fighting for the life you want to live and doing the work to keep it. Most Anticipated from Goodreads , Paste , Polygon , BookBub , and more.

This book broke me. I waited up until midnight on release day just so i could buy it as soon as possible. I ended up buying both the eBook and the audiobook so I could listen while cooking and eating dinner and while crafting. I hated putting down to go to sleep. I took my Kindle with me to work so I could read during my lunch break and any spare minute I had. I absolutely loved it. Reading Arthur's perspective was especially heartbreaking. I cried several times throughout the book and I cheered inside when DICOMY got its comeuppance, especially one character in particular. I'm an elementary school teacher, so I can't teach this book, but I absolutely think it should be taught in universities, and maybe high schools. I'm also all for a movie or show adaptation of both books in the series, as well as more books in the series. I just want to live forever in this world.
“Hate is loud. We are louder.” … and so we return to Marsyas Island to reunite with Arthur, Linus, and the magical children in their care. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of reading an excerpt of this book and I was gobsmacked. How does one write a sequel to one of the most brilliant books in recent memory? Somehow TJ Klune accomplished the impossible. He wrote a book just as good, if not better than THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA. SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE SEA is the fulfillment of a promise and it is, quite simply, perfect. The world needs more books by TJ Klune. Heck, the world needs more people like TJ Klune. I won’t spoil this book by summarizing the plot, but I will tell you no one writes the story of found family and the importance of acceptance like TJ Klune. His characters are unforgettable and his messaging timely and important - especially now when hate and the push for conformity are so prevalent. Whether you are a fan of audiobooks or not, I strongly encourage you to experience this book by listening. Daniel Henning brings these characters to life in a way that adds to the brilliance of the novel. He imbues each character, particularly the magical children, with a uniqueness that enhances the emotional impact of Klune’s words. That being said, I also encourage acquiring a print copy of this book because it is truly a treasure you’ll want to revisit often. Put down whatever else you’re reading and treat yourself to this phenomenal story.
I have read every one of TJ Klune’s books. He is by far my favorite author. At the end of every book, I feel a deep sense of gratitude that he has chosen to share his incredible talent with the world. My son, now 18, has, with my encouragement, started reading his books. After JK Rowling showed herself to be the incredibly bigoted woman she is, I wanted to make sure my son found an author who is truly the anti-JK Rowling. Thank you, TJ Klune, for being you, for bringing so much love, humor, and hope to this world. You are loved.
The first book in this series, “The House in the Cerulean Sea”, is one of my favorite novels. I wrote in my review of it that “reading this book is like being wrapped in a soft warm blanket, suffused with love.” This sequel is just as endearing as the first book. It took me some time to get back into the characters from the original, but after a while I was fully engaged and committed in their struggle to be accepted and recognized for their individual identities. There is an ongoing battle with bigotry that is not dissimilar to present day political discourse about those who are in some way “other than”; this is an engaging fight that TJ Klune does a good job of articulating and dealing with. I enjoyed this book on multiple levels; it is another winner!
Book looks great but it doesn't have the sleeve depicted in the listing. Excited to read though
Don’t you hate when you get an ARC of a book you’re excited for, start reading it, LOVE it, and realize it’s only an excerpt? Yep that’s what happened to me. Thankfully this wonderful novel had just been released so I bought the full version and loved it even more. The story is the continuation of Authur and Linus story and their six kids they care for. Just like the first book this book tells a love story of acceptance and respect for those who may be different in such a way it leaves your heart warmed. The characters were so amazing and I feel in love with all the kids all over again. It has the right amount of fantasy and humor that will leave this book on my mind for quite a while. Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy
This book and the first are some of the two best books. I have read in my entire life and I read hundreds of books every year and that is a fact this book brought me to tears brought me to anger brought me to laughing out loud. The stories within this book and the former are so relatable to everyone on some level, and they bring magic, yes magic to our lives. Because there is magic in the ordinary. I so wish I could live in this world that the author has created. Phenomenal, phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
OMG! Somewhere Beyond the Sea. If you loved House on the Cerulean Sea, you have to read this book. (If you haven't read House on the Cerulean Sea, read that first.) The children! So funny, so brave, so smart, and so loving. Arthur and Linus and their amazing family, along with Zoe and Helen and people from the village, face challenges and threats, but I promise you a beautifully happy ending. Have your tissues ready.
