I've read them all and yes, some are better than others. This one...not so good. However, the characters we love move forward in their lives and I will definitely get #60. I need Eve to kick some ass! Love when she tangles with the bad guys!!!!
Good summer book. Storyline a bit on the light side, fairly easy to figure out the culprit. Still entertaining. Looking forward to the next one!
I have reread this series multiple times. This new book is right on the mark. It's words to the future a hope I so share. Meet Eve Dallas and her way of seeing life. Her hate of murder a true masterpiece. Justice is her cape, crime the bane of her existence her target. Her weapon of brains, determination, grit, and heart. While this book can be enjoyed alone it's event better starting at the first book. Meet and follow her life. Get to know her strength and frailty.
If you're familiar with this series, you'll know there are stories where Eve Dallas figures out who the murderer is long before anyone else does. And there are stories where one murder leads to a second and a third, and maybe even a fourth, and the pattern reveals the criminal. And there are stories where landmarks blow up, or life-changing events happen in major characters' lives, or you see some of the story through the eyes of the perpetrator. This is not any of those stories. This is a straight police procedural, where it takes a long time, and a great deal of careful detective work, to identify the person who committed one (and only one) murder, and that case is the central focus of the book. And it works very well. I wouldn't want every story in the In Death series to be like this one. I enjoy the variety of stories JD Robb gives us, and I hope we get to see more about the lives of the many beloved supporting characters in the next book and the ones after that. But this time, it was great to see a straightforward story about some excellent detective work.
Liked this one a lot. Sad, of course, but story really hooked you. A lot of nice buts between Dallas and Rourke. Anyone who likes her books will enjoy this. Not sure it'd be right the you aren't familiar with ongoing story, which I highly recommend. Not one of the more complicated cases, but excellent nonetheless. You can't go wrong with this author!
This book did not disappoint. I think the title is misleading as the killer wasn't really so passionate but a self- appointed judge and jury. The book is true Nora. And has the added benefit of obliquely using the US current political stage to highlight smart modern women and a smug egotistical right-wing males as characters in this story. Thank you, Nora for your conscious use of societal issues and relatable characters. Thank you for including more about Mavis and the house project. The love scene with Roarke was tender.
This was such a pure, simple, satisfying In Death book. Nothing overly horrific, nothing heavily complicated, just Eve, Roarke, Peabody and Gallahad doing what they do. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love this entire series and have since the first book many years ago. Well done Nora! 😍
Another winning murder mystery from J D Robb. I must admit at first I thought the story was complicated and was dragging. Her books have never been that way so I was surprised. However, on reflection, every character was important to the plot and the book was outstanding. Every time I review her writing I comment on how powerful her scene descriptions are. So much so you can feel the wind, smell the flowers, feel the pain, visualize the cat and know Summerset! Her relationship with Roark the kind all women crave and the love scenes are sweet without the heaviness of erotica. Well done!
