My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground .
(Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) And then we ate an array of finger sandwiches and deviled eggs and miniature beef wellingtons that cost more than my first car. My point is, Grant is gone . And so are all his many, many deep, dark secrets which I never really ever bothered to ask him about.
He is never coming back. So why do I still see his face everywhere I go? The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie is an utterly addictive, unputdownable, nail-biting, absolutely gripping psychological thriller novella with a shocking, breathtaking, heartstopping, spine-chilling twist that you won't see coming, will leave you stunned, and will literally have you picking your jaw up off the floor and bringing it to the nearest hospital for major facial reconstructive surgery.
In a quaint suburban neighborhood cloaked in normalcy, unravel the beguiling absurdity of hidden truths and comedic mayhem as an unsuspecting widow stumbles upon a tangled web of deceit. Her late husband's baffling secrets breed unexpected adventures in a world where nothing is truly as it seems. This brilliantly written satirical novella had me laughing out loud more times than I can count. She saw her husband's casket get lowered into the ground so all of her horrible memories can be put to rest. But she thinks she is going crazy because someone is watching her every move. Someone who reminds her of her husband. But she can't seem to make sense of it. Everyone tells her she is going crazy. But an unexpected turn comes into her life when a woman knocks on her door saying that they were love with the same man. After that, a world that seems normal now is flipped 100% upside down but that's just the beginning of crazy. I absolutely loved reading this novella! It helped me get out of a small reading slump. It's fun, thrilling, and kept my attention! I wish it was actually longer!
Okay that was SO DIFFERENT for a Freida McFadden book! But… it was also so Freida at the same time! 🤔😂 I loved it! It was so funny at times but also definitely got the thriller like we all love with Frieda! It was super fast paced so it helped me in my “don’t fall in a book slump” phase! The last 40% or so was like throw it at you hyper speed, tons of information but I love it! lol Solid 4⭐️ book! Everyone read it! Oh and while you’re at it… everyone make sure to preorder The Boyfriend that’s coming up because that one is… oh just preorder it!! 🫣😏
This book started out with a bit of comedy, which made me smile. Now, first of all, who has a room in their house that they have never been in 😱, and you hearing noises up there 🤔. Could never be me. I always told my husband that I have to see in all rooms, I watch and read way too many thrillers 😂.It quickly got into the twists and turns of a typical Freida Mcfadden book. Overall, I did enjoy it, even if I did think the twists were predictable.
Wow! McFadden does it again! I couldn't stop reading this satirical novella! In fact, I read it in one sitting. She immediately had my attention with the Prologue and kept it to the last word of the story. Actually, she caught my eye with her dedication ( I won't spoil that...lol). This story is a slight deviation from her normal writing. There are moments of laugh-out-loud humor as well as enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and wanting more. She also makes some references to some of her previous works which adds to the entertainment. Emma, Poppy, and Grant will all keep you guessing as you devour the pages of The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie. I enjoyed having an author who actually brings herself into the story as well! If you love McFadden's books, be sure to find a comfy chair in a quiet room to relax while you devour this book. You might even throw some Nickelback on the radio as well!
Please don’t go into this book thinking it is serious. It clearly states it is a SATIRE novella. Short. Funny. It’s amazing how many people bypass that information and then complain about the book. It’s funny. It’s good. It takes like an hour to an hour and a half to read so even if you don’t like it, you don’t waste much time. But you will like it. Because it’s funny.
If you want a twistful story, this is it. But the book is short. So it's not a long dragged out story. It only took me a couple hours to read and kept my attention the whole time. My daughter told me about this book and I read it then gave it to her. She was the one that first discovered the title. We have been sharing books that keep it interesting and this is one of them. The only thing is I think towards the end the writer started to rush it a tad, but that's ok, it was twisted there too. I recommend this as a good reading.
I am a Freida fan and have read most of her books but this one…I’m just not sure about it. It was slightly predictable and had me rolling my eyes a few too many times. It’s a quick, fun, easy read but there isn’t any depth to it.
A Hilarious and Clever Satirical Masterpiece! Freida McFadden has truly outdone herself with "The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie." This brilliantly written satirical novella had me laughing out loud more times than I can count! It’s not just a gripping read—it’s a witty and clever commentary that showcases McFadden’s unique ability to blend humor with suspense. The storyline is captivating, filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. But what sets this book apart is the sharp, satirical edge that McFadden brings to the narrative. Her playful self-references, especially the nod to her book “The Boyfriend,” are pure genius and add an extra layer of fun for fans of her work. It’s rare to find a thriller that can make you laugh so much while keeping you on the edge of your seat, but McFadden manages to do just that with ease. The characters are quirky and memorable, each one contributing to the novella's charm and humor. McFadden’s ability to poke fun at herself and the genre, all while delivering a tightly plotted story, is nothing short of brilliant. It’s clear she had a blast writing this, and that joy is infectious as you read. If you’re looking for a book that’s not only suspenseful but also hilariously entertaining, "The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie" is an absolute must-read. Freida McFadden has crafted a satirical gem that’s as smart as it is funny, and I couldn’t stop reading—or laughing. Five stars for this delightful, laugh-out-loud thriller!
