I Never read books about politics. In fact , I usually read anything that will help me escape the political reality as it stands today . But I have listened to Brian’s fantastic podcasts and his interviews with members of Congress and of course, his interview with President Biden. BTC’s latest book, “Shameless” is so readable and so well written, that it feels like you are having a conversation with him as you read! It is insightful, well -researched , informative , and at times ( love those footnotes ) very funny! I am just about to finish “Shameless “ and ready to send copies to my friends:) Highly Recommend!!

I have been a viewer of Brian Tyler Cohen's work on YouTube on and off for the past few years, especially leading up to the 2020 election. Admittedly, I stopped watching him for a while, only to come back earlier this year to find out he had written a book of his own. While a written book is a much different medium for information compared to a YouTube video or audio podcast, I decided to purchase it both because I was a fan of his independent progressive work and I wanted to support his content in a simple way as this. The book is a fairly short read, spanning less than 200 pages in total. However, it provides an interesting and easy-to-read insight into many of the practices and policies that the modern-day Republican Party has followed over the last 50 years. Cohen outlines in detail and explanation throughout the book how the Republicans have devolved into a party of dysfunction that remains bent on bring down American democracy by making the United States public lose faith in government and blaming the Democrats for problems the Republicans themselves introduce and make an issue of. Furthermore, he also criticizes the mainstream media for failing to critically cover the destructive and worrisome antics the Republican Party does, offering instead to try and placate to both sides of the aisle, which, in turn, only allows the party in general to get away with their hypocritical and dysfunctional behavior again and again. To back up his work, Cohen provides insight from credible individuals who have either studied or been involved in politics themselves, like former writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live and MN senator, Al Franken, and former White House press secretary and MSNBC political analyst, Jen Psaki. While Cohen paints a bleak picture of the American democratic practice with all of the attacks launched against it by the Republican Party, he offers some hope in the end by advocating everyone to "poke holes in potatoes" and do their part to call out Republicans for their hypocrisy and destruction instead of remaining silent and letting them get away with it in the future. If the American public loves democracy, then it is in their best interest to fight for it and prevent it from being destroyed from inside the country. In conclusion, for anyone who is a fan of Brian Tyler Cohen and would like a fresh progressive take on the political stage and the history of the modern-day Republican Party's practices and policies, and especially for people who feel jaded by the mainstream media and how they try to be civil and placate to both sides of the political aisle, this book is a must read. While written by an independent content creator, it became the #1 New York Times bestseller within two weeks of its release back in mid-August. It's easy to read and a refreshing take on politics that does not hold back on calling out the Republican Party and pointing out their numerous flaws and practices that they shamelessly advocate and the media likewise shamelessly reports on but doesn't hold them accountable.
