Though she warns readers halfway through the book that “it’s not the first time…that a pundit has let the fair and balanced concept fly right out the window” that phrase should be the subtitle of this book. Disappointing to say the least. This is more useful for understanding liberal mindsets than absorbing actual objective factual information. If you happen to be a democrat then this book, full of poorly supported left-leaning assertions, might make you feel good as you continue to parrot the same liberal talking points. Republicans and conservative values are demonized, disparaged and “explained” with no attempt at fairness, truth or even reason. Sadly, it’s yet another democrat-drenched publication masquerading as objective information that adds nothing to public or private discourse but the perpetuation of the political polarization of our country. Refund incoming.

Wish I'd saved $16. I expected more from the buildup of the author on Amazon. There are no great insights or new information hete. This is knowledge that a bright high school student should have. It takes a pedantic, snarky, tone with a subtle note of British superiority to it. A lot of it is the kind of uber-liberal drivel you'd hear on an episode of West Wing, which the author seems to admire so much. I suppose that if you live in Hollywood or Manhattan, and attend cocktail parties with these pseudo-intellectual, self-aggrandizing, egotist, types, this book might come in handy. For the rest of us, subscribe to a good encyclopedia online, it's a better use of $16.

This book was not what I thought it would be, but interesting and helpful anyway. It's a mini lesson on several general subjects that intelegent people should be familiar on. The author is witty and to the point. This book is a must read before engaging in conversation with people you don't want to look stupid in front of.

Pompous and disjointed and hard to follow.

Wonderful review of everything you really should be able to converse confidently about with other adults, along with great ways to escape potentially dangerous subjects. Imogen articulates a lot of information in very efficiently written cheat sheets that will help you sound like you actually paid attention in school (even if you did, you'll still learn something!). My whole family has thoroughly enjoyed the book, including my know-it-all father who is obsessed with learning about history and politics. Thanks Imogen!

Easy read

A wonderful book filled with so much insightful information. It's written well, and it's funny so you can't put it down and you just learn so much about all kinds of things that I can see how it would help keep a conversation going. Two thumbs up to Imogen.

Briefly, Imogen Lloyd Webber is a New York-based British author, broadcaster, PEOPLE Now's Royals Correspondent & Broadway.com’s Senior Editor. Educated at Cambridge University and a former MSNBC Contributor and Fox News regular, she has made hundreds of appearances on air talking everything from Hillary Clinton to HAMILTON. Many people are reluctant to become engaged in conversation, especially with strangers, because — they plead — they have “nothing interesting to say.” That will emphatically not be true if and when they read the material that Webber provides. Really, why can’t we?” Use this when someone is focusing on the dissimilarities of people around the world and you feel the need to point out that we are all human beings — tragedy comes when we forget that. Note: I presume to add an observation by Margaret Mead: "Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” o Crisp Fact: “The last time the Republicans won a presidential election without a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket was 1928.” This is one of those mind-boggling, jaw-dropping truths that always adds spice to a political discussion. Obviously, no brief commentary such as mine can possibly do full justice to the quality of information, insights, and counsel that Imogen Lloyd Webber provides but I do hope that I have at least indicated why I think so highly of her and of this book. For those in need of advice on how to strengthen their conversation skills and social presence, this really is — by far — the best-single source.
