Spoilers Below! Hunting Adeline was a gripping, emotional and harrowing story that will absolutely stay with you forever. I absolutely loved this book as it not only destroyed me but also put me back together. There were moments I cried, felt disgusted, screamed, laughed, smiled and blushed. Definitely not an easy read but one that I absolutely could not put down. This is the final installment to the Cat and Mouse duet, so definitely read the first book before starting this one. This book also may not be for everybody as the story has some very very dark, graphic, explicit and triggering content. So please absolutely check the trigger warnings before reading. The overall plot and storyline were beautifully written and captivating even with the dark content throughout the story. I will say that Part 1 of this book was extremely difficult to read but the author was able to write such a raw and realistic story in a way that still gave me hope. Adeline’s journey was dark, heartbreaking, honest, empowering and just beautiful. While, painful to read at times her storyline and character development was just fantastic. Her healing and recovery was a bit unconventional at times but exactly what she needed for herself and for her relationship with Zade. Zade, I just have no words for how incredible this man was. His love, devotion, commitment, and obsession with Adeline was just so god damn beautiful. He definitely was exactly what she needed and their relationship was one of the best I have ever read. Zade honestly is just one of my top favorite book boyfriends ever. The spice in this book was also just fantastic. It’s dark, kinky and intense, and while it doesn’t occur until about 65% into the book it’s definitely worth it after all Adeline and Zade went through. While, there were a lot of side characters throughout this book that I liked, Sibby was by far my favorite. I absolutely loved how funny, crazy, charming and dramatic she was. She also provided that comedic relief that was needed in the story. Another side character that I liked but still have a few mixed feelings about was Rio. I would definitely love a book about him as he was not your typical morally gray character. I will say that the revenge aspect of this story was fantastic but a bit too rushed. I just would have liked for the torture and pain to have been more, especially after what they all did to Adeline. The conclusion and epilogue was absolutely perfect and definitely worth all that heartache. Zade and Adeline’s unconventional love story is one for the ages. Overall, just a heartbreakingly beautiful read and ending to the Cat and Mouse duet. Detailed chapter spoilers! •Chapter 8 – R & SA Explicitly Detailed. •Chapter 12 – R & SA Explicitly Detailed. •Chapter 14 – R & SA Mentioned/Talked About. •Chapter 17 – Torture and Aftermath Mentioned. •Chapter 18 – R, SA and Torture Explicitly Detailed. •Chapter 22 – Zade finds Adeline after 2 and a half months of being kidnapped. The end of Part 1 as well. •Chapter 24 – R & SA Mentioned/Remembered. •Chapter 31 – R & SA Mentioned/Remembered. Some spicy and kinky scenes also occur between Zade and Adeline. Months have passed since her rescue but she’s still recovering and dealing with PTSD. •Chapter 32 – R & SA Mentioned/Remembered. •Chapter 33 – Full on smut/spice occurs between Zade and Adeline.
Overall the book was great. The ending was a bit dragged out for me but i do really like that once she’s found it just doesn’t stop but finally there’s a book about the struggle with PTSD that no one wants to talk about.
This book had everything. Drama, laughter, sadness, happiness. Scary, anxiety, sexual, hateful moments. Every emotion that we possess. This has been by far one of the best books I have ever read and I can't wait to read more.
This book is amazing. It’s definitely dark but has a great story line! Great follow up to the first one.
This book HAS. IT. ALL. It’s the epitome of dark romance. Very, very dark. But man, it’s beautifully, brilliantly written. I was totally captivated this whole book. I was screaming by the end. Love Zade, love Addie, and somehow formed an attachment to crazy pants Sibby! Such a fantastic read
Part one of this book was brutal and very difficult to get through. Take the trigger warnings seriously because the beginning of this book had ,y heart in my stomach with second hand PTSD. The second half of this book was good. I cried during Adaline’s recovery and the push and pull between her love for Zade and the similarities between his brutal obsession and her abusers. However, I have to dock a star because there comes a point where ace and Adaline have come to a crossroads and instead of making a decision as to which way to go Adeline really waffles and it ends up being a tedious drag that I didn’t find interesting or enjoy. I found myself looking forward to Zade’ perspective and breezing through Adaline’s perspective because the waffling was - if I can be honest - annoying. Here you have a man who moves heaven and earth for you and is the keystone of your recovery but you want to discard him. I understand why she’s confused and working through her e,options but I don’t think it had to take up as many chapters as it did. Otherwise, good story. Book 1 - Haunting Adaline - was much better.
I don't never know where to start. Book one was terrifying but book two is the star of the show. Apart from Anne Rice, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Steven King and Christine Feehan, I have never seen another author with such writing skills. If one does not have an open mind this book is not for them. While the story had many triggers the dialogue was believable interspersed with humor. This book exemplifies great writing and is indeed a worthy sequel. For those who like the dark side every now and then this book is definitely for you.
H.D. Carlton has officially become my new favorite for dark, twisted villains who somehow turn out to be the heroes! This book hit the perfect spot for my love of dark themes, but it also delivered heartbreaking moments and healing in equal measure. Seriously, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS—this book is not for everyone, and if you are not accustomed to this level of depravity, proceed with caution. Book two of the 𝑪𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 duet is even more intense than the first. Zade is pure perfection—a morally gray hero who fights for Addie, pushes her, and never gives up on her. His dedication had me absolutely swooning. He is truly one of a kind. Adeline’s character development was next level. Watching her grow into a fierce, unstoppable badass was incredible. My heart ached for her, but seeing her prove to those vile villains that she’s far more powerful than they ever imagined was phenomenal. Addie is not just a diamond—she is a rare, precious gem, unlike any other. I cheered when Addie took her power back. And can we talk about Sibby? I absolutely loved her! This book is a wild, emotional ride, and I could not get enough!
