One of my favorite dark romance academia books to date!
I waited a couple of weeks after finishing this audiobook to sit down and write my review, and I can definitively tell you that it has been on my mind at least once a day since I finished it! This is probably one of the top dark academia books that I’ve read/listened to so far in the last several years. I loved it so much that I picked up another one of Keri Lake’s books “Nightshade” and I can easily say that Keri is becoming one of my “instant purchase” dark romance authors. The storyline was very unique and interesting with the fictional parasite that was still grounded in real-life medical science aspects. The spice took a while to come along in the story (this is a SLOW burn), but once you get to it, you’ll realize it was completely worth the wait! If this book/audiobook has been sitting on your TBR, go ahead and pick it up, you won't regret it.

Been out of the dark academia loop, but now I’m diving back in for more. Lilia and Devryck? Obsessed. This story has me itching for more, and yeah, that BLUELANCE comparison is SPOT ON —can’t unsee it! 💙 I'm a STEM girly at heart, and diving into fantasy science just hits different for me. The vibes, the 'science' nerdery, and Devryck, aka Doctor Death (new book boyfriend unlocked 🔥) — I was here for it all. The tension and slow burn? Pure perfection. The spice level? Off the charts. The story and mystery? Loved every bit. And don't get me started on the bonus novella Phobia. (Seriously, read it after Nocticadia!) Highly recommend! The characters are sooo well written👌 Lilia, our FMC, is a gem—intelligent, caring, and sass on point (I literally wanna be her friend). Her journey navigating grief and trauma is masterfully done, and her passion for research is everything. Now, Devryck, our dark and brooding professor—hilariously sarcastic (can we talk about his inner monologue? It had me creasing so bad). Unpacking his traumatic past adds depth, and his adoration for Lilia is heart-melting. He's the 'touch her and you die' type, and his romantic and dirty talk? Immaculate. From heartbreaking moments to swoon-worthy, this man does it all! Their romance? Seriously, it was everything. A slow burn that just hit differently, and the way they grew together? Top-tier. It felt so easy and real, with chemistry and tension sparking right from the start. They helped each other grow, and by the end, I was all in—total soulmates! The ending? Left my jaw on the floor! I know the author said this book was a standalone but the ending was low key a cliffhanger!?? I would love to know more about that twist—seriously, spill the details lol
Perfect Spooky Season Read
Dark academia, morally gray mmc, creepy parasites… Nocticadia has all of the fixings for a spooky season read. The storyline was fast-paced and inventive, especially the noctisoma, and there were several twists that had me guessing. I did find the end to be a little rushed - there was a LOT going on in the last few chapters - but still enjoyed the book overall. Definitely check the list of trigger warnings before reading.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars all the stars really Lilia & Devryck’s story is all the dark academia, gothic romance, & spicy slow burn goodness I live for! Their chemistry is so deliciously intense! 🔥 Legit having me BEG my husband to come home from work deliciousness 🌶️🌶️🌶️ The plot is refreshingly original with just the right amount of spice, & Keri Lake even threw in some new science terms that were well thought out & believable. The writing style is perfection. It sucks you in from page one & doesn't let go. I'm talking grip-the-book-til-your-knuckles-turn-white kind of gripping. It's like the words just flow off the page & directly into your brain. I lost track of time & forgot to eat, it’s fine so worth it. I will always recommend this book!! If you're into dark academia, gothic vibes, or just want a romance that'll make you feel things, pick up this book. Like, now. Devryck will forever be my #1 book boyfriend! & Keri Lake, if you're reading this - pretty please give us more Lilia & Devryck! Their tension & angst is everything!!! 🥵 I'm not above begging.
