I liked reading this. It kept me interested. It was a little predictable in some areas. I didn't like how it ended. It was still entertaining.

A memorable and wonderful read!

Hill of Secrets had me captivated from page one to the very end. I knew about the Manhattan Project largely through the movie “Oppenheimer.” This book sensitized me to what it might have felt like for the families of the scientists who worked there. The characters are vividly drawn and their personal secrets intertwine just as the scientists’ secrets about the bomb are a backdrop. Terrific historical fiction!

This book is at least a 6 star read.

Hill of Secrets by Galina Vroman is an excellent blend of both fiction and the wartime Los Alamos reality. Knowing a little about the development of these nuclear warheads didn't include knowledge of the homelife, and Galina's book was, well, an open book. The three year epilogue shows that there could be a continuance of the story, maybe of the men's recovery. I highly recommend this book. It is well-written and flows smoothly.

This the first fiction book I have read about Los Alamos, although I am familiar with the research and briefly lived in the area. Nuclear war is such s disconcerting topic; perhaps that is why the characters did not fully resonate with me. The storyline is believable and has enough twists to keep you reading, and the ending was very well written. I would recommend reading this book for the historical insight.

This book took a different approach on WWII describing lives affected by the war and the race the people were in who were employed by our government to produce the atom bomb which finally ended the war. There are many secrets people live with every day, I finished reading and then reflected on these many different secrets which were kept by many different people. In conclusion, my thoughts led me to this question: "Is it possible to actually and truthfully know even one person?"

Great read for fans of historical fiction!

A genuinely compelling historical novel of life in the secretive pressure cooker of Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. What makes this book a refreshing shift from the mainstream "Oppenheimer" narrative is that the story focuses on the experience of women relegated to the role of onlookers at Los Alamos. The isolation, compounded by the atmosphere of enveloping secrecy, takes a toll on the protagonists, both male and female; and surprise developments, at times romantic, at other times more tragic, keep the pages turning. The whole fabric is further enriched with fascinating excursions into local indigenous culture. Clearly the author has done her homework and taken great pains to remain historically faithful, while still creating fully realized characters and telling a compelling tale of individuals caught up in world-changing circumstances - the true meaning of which even they don't fully grasp until much later. Definitely worth your time!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was able to become invested in the characters, and it kept my attention. The ending was weak. It was like, a door slammed shut and it was over vs. the story wrapping up.
