A new, sexy standalone novel from New York Times Bestsellers, Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward I was the last of my group of friends to find “the one.” The guys would always tease me that I needed to hurry up and settle down. But I was in no rush. Until I met someone worth rushing for.
Alex was one of the weekend volunteers at Ryan’s House —a charity I founded to build housing near hospitals. Little did I know she was the same person I’d been arguing with over email before the project started. At the time, I’d thought Alex was a dude .
In reality? She was a smoking hot blonde who captivated me from the moment we met in person. Our chemistry was off the charts, and I fell hard pretty fast.
Unfortunately, Alex insisted I was too young for her. I hated that she felt that way. Because age was just a number.
Not only that, her words didn’t match the way she looked at me—like she was very interested. I lived for the weekends we’d spend out of town volunteering. Alex and I side-by-side hammering during the day, while sharing intimate dinners together at the hotel at night.
Eventually, the walls she’d put up to protect her heart began to crumble. Until fate threw us a doozy that I wasn’t sure we could come back from. If I’d thought our age gap was the biggest hurdle, I didn’t know anything yet.
Rule number one for dating an older woman who insists you could never be together? Don’t fall in love.

It was so good to return to this world. The story about the last single friend is always a favorite. There is something about that HEA you cheer for a little harder. I loved Brayden and Alex’s story. The reverse age gap was done so well. I love the way Brayden had these feelings he has never had, and Alex kept trying to keep her walls up. Their chemistry was so good. The emotional journey of this story made the HEA so worthwhile. I have completely enjoyed Vi and Penelope’a writing on this series. There have been such wonderful stories, all able to read as standalones, and a wonderful world created.
The power-writing duo, Keeland and Ward, are back with a captivating reverse age-gap romance that brought out all the smiles from the word go. With that being said, their protagonists’ journey to happiness is a bumpy one. The Rules of Dating a Younger Man is the last standalone novel in The Laws of Opposites Attract series which I’d highly recommend reading if you haven’t already. Whilst Brayden Foster and Alexandria Jones’ attraction in their cute meet-up is undeniable, he soon realises that ‘Alex’ is not only the one who’s been sending him bothersome colour-orientated emails but also a very efficient volunteer on a house renovation project. A charitable project close to his and his mates’ hearts. And what an absolute treat it was to find out what the gang and their women were up to; especially Colby’s wife who I have a soft spot for. I truly liked how the authors left Alex and Brayden’s age gap up to their readers' imagination; I learnt his age and feelings about them as a possible couple, but there’s a strong ring of emotional conflict regarding her thoughts. Understandably, getting to know each other well, and building trust is a slow-burn affair. Yet I couldn’t fault Brayden–hands off girlies; he's my new book boyfriend! If there were ever someone so caring and attuned to Alex’s presentiment, it had to be him. The authors' approach to questionable differences in a relationship of this kind was extremely well done and highlighted in the story. A good example is a popular early 90s TV series. I met the kind-hearted Devyn in Owen’s story, The Rules of Dating My One-Night Stand. This time, her brother’s featured and up to no good. I have no qualms about saying I didn’t like what he did in the least. Still, his shenanigans added to the angst which is, in point of fact, plentiful. As always, solid character and plot development are guaranteed when Keeland and Ward put pen to paper together. I adored Alex’s bestie, a family member, and Ryan–I have no words for the actions his buddies do to make sure his name never went in vain. There’s a scene that had me gulping for air since in all its poignancy; Brayden’s endurance makes a difference. Keeland and Ward squeezed the tears out of me, made me laugh and swoon and the tension buildup ladies–hold on to your seats; the twist floored me! I didn’t mention the off-the-charts steaminess but I’ll leave that up to your imagination! I lapped up the banter which flowed so delightfully–the epicness of the ending filled my heart's content. So, want a story to lose yourselves in at the end of summer? Then the book is for you, but don’t even think about picking it up too late at night because you won't be able to put this phenomenal love story down. Bravo to the authors for such a spectacular read!
Brayden and Alex's story was the perfect conclusion to The Law of Opposites Attract series. Throughout this series we've known Brayden as the perennial bachelor, never having the desire to settle down and get married, like his three buddies have all done along the way. I liked the funny way these two officially meet, and it was great that Alex rolled with it. It was obvious that Brayden and Alex had instant chemistry, and even though it felt like their attraction and ultimate relationship happened at a very quick pace, it really was a slow burn romance. I loved how Brayden was so cognizant of Alex's feelings, and never pressured her for more than she was willing to give. There were a lot of ups and downs along the way, with a shocking revelation early on in the story that rock both Alex and Brayden to the core, but it hit Alex way harder than Brayden. She wrestled with her feelings for a good long while, which opened the door for there to be other parties involved with both characters, which isn't my favorite way to create angst in a story, but I can see how it fit the narrative here. Penelope and Vi really do a great job of showcasing the struggles an older woman can experience when the possibility of dating a younger man presents itself, and often times the psychological and emotional aspect is super difficult to overcome, but Brayden really was so patient with her, and when Alex finally gives in to her desires, the schmexy scenes between them were explosive and all consuming. Holy wowza! I loved seeing the whole gang show up along the way, it's always so much fun to visit with them all again. Still not a big fan of Devyn's little brother and his blackmail scheme of taking videos without consent and posting them to the internet. I know a lot of people thought that was super funny, but I'm the odd man out on that one. I fell in love with Alex's best friend Wells, and I loved seeing him connect with Deek. And Alex's stepdaughter Caitlin, and the whole Jerry Springer type circumstances there was unique and refreshing to read - you certainly don't see THAT very often in a story! I truly loved seeing how much the fifth cog in the wheel, Ryan, was present in this story. The whole concept of Ryan's House is amazing, and I really loved how the four guys keep his memory alive even after all these years. And Brayden's visit to the cemetery had me weeping and gave me chills all at the same time. Fortune cookies for the win! This is quite an emotional read, and as usual, I was in tears a few times along the way, and a huge mess in the final chapter. Happy tears, though! Always happy tears at the end, Penelope and Vi do it to me every time! I'm sad to see this series reach its conclusion, but hopefully these guys make a cameo now and again in a new story, or maybe an Easter Egg, like the one we got in this book?
Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s The Rules of Dating a Younger Man is a heartfelt and hard-fought romance that beautifully blends angsty emotion, sizzling sexual tension and the captivating build-up of a charming friends-to-lovers romance. This story follows Alex, the older businesswoman who lost her husband to cancer and in his memory joined with Brayden, the younger managing director of Ryan’s House, the cancer charity project he and his best friends founded in honor of their friend, Ryan, who they lost to cancer. As they navigate their close friendship and shared mission, their undeniable chemistry crackles with witty banter, snappy bickering and flirty exchanges. This slow-burning romance was both sweet and sexy, and the storyline was plotted and paced perfectly. This reverse age-gap romance was an engaging mix of tender moments and palpable passion punctuated with a surprise twist that made this a very compelling and deeply satisfying read. The Rules of Dating a Younger Man by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward gets five smooches from me!
