Another branch of the Svensson family!
This starts the tales of the Seattle Svenssons. It features Salinger Svensson. He is the oldest of the Seattle branch and head of his investment company. He is gruff, serious and driven to be the biggest, baddest of them all! Mwa ha ha! His assistant, Mandy, is a woman living on the edge. With her support corgi, expensive coffe addiction and stalker is up to the task. She will not be cowed by him. But when Salinger sees her in a tight cocktail dress his attitude starts to change. Especially when she handles the meeting of and important client so well. This is when fate conspires against a Svensson. And I a, so glad I get to read all about it. This is a fast paced, laugh out loud story full of passion and bumbling comedy. I can hardly wait to see who falls next.
Could have been better
I was very disappointed in the LFC. I found it hard to believe that an EA would be that badly dressed and groomed. It seemed unrealistic for that caliber of a company. Also, how is she dead broke, living in a dump and able to afford multiple Starbucks per day. Not to mention she was a pushover with everyone in her life. She was a mess that did not improve throughout the entire book. She just kept on getting worse. The LMC’s 180 transformation wasn’t believable in such a short period of time. Not to mention there were just way too many different characters that added no value whatsoever to the story line.
Enjoyable read, but a bit hard to follow in places.
I did enjoy the story. It was very well written and a great read, but all the side characters made it a bit hard to follow. There’s no series listed but it doesn't really read like a standalone or series starter. There was never really any sort of introduction or explanation about his family which left me very confused for most the book. It’s readable as a standalone, but barely.

Really liked the characters and the banter as well. The family craziness was quite hilarious. My only caveat is that it says standalone but you just get thrown into the Svensson family tree and there is t really any explanation so certain parts are hard to follow.

So many reason to love this!
I saw this book on an Instagram reel and couldn’t wait to read it. It was not what I expected but in the best way. Here are a few things I liked and one thing I didn’t. 1. Most books play out like movies in my head (anyone else?!) but this one reminded me of a play… especially the scene with Mandy’s family. Her family was over the top crazy and it made for laugh out loud moments. His family was a lot too. I found that delightful! 2. I liked that Salinger started out a grumpy villainous billionaire and still was true to that at the end. Yes he did change a bit but it wasn’t a complete character overhaul because he fell in love. I always struggle with that in other books. 3. The dirty talk. Whoa! It was very well done. 4. I understand for the plot, Mandy needed to keep the stalkers identity to herself but good grief, she needed to say it 100 pages earlier. It felt like this was a continuation of a series. But I am not sure (going to figure that out in a moment). I wish that had been more clear. Fully recommend this book, you will enjoy it.
Funny eclectic Rome on read...
This book started off chaotic- there were a lot of characters with no back story, so it was a little bit hard to follow at first. After I got through the first 3 chapters, I was hooked. So funny I laughed out loud several times, decent story line and plenty of steam! I'm excited to read another one of Ali's books to see if they are all this good.
Romance/ dangerous stalker
I really liked the story 'Mr. Absolutely Not' by Alina Jacobs. It had romance, a dangerous stalker, adventure, and suspense. The characters were personable, and the reader could feel the emotions hiding behind their actions. The boss is a rude, obnoxious character but it was understandable from his upbringing. He had had to fight his way up from poverty and neglect while having to support many brothers while doing it. His sweet assistant was a good counterpoint to his rough personality, and she seemed to be the only one who could handle his volatile moods. But his oafish behavior towards her changes abruptly when he realizes that she is being pursued by a dangerous stalker and she is terrified. He has to learn how to curb his brutish manners and anger while trying to protect her and get her to confide in him when she refuses to tell him who her stalker is.
