Another Haven Brother is taken off the market and it is glorious! One thing I love about this series is how each brother's romantic timeline varies just enough. Garrett isn't looking for love. He is fairly on the side of 'not worth the effort' but he also isn't extremely hard headed once the romance presents itself as potentially life changing. I loved how he was with his family and his son. He shows he's the boy scout while also accepting he can't control everything and get it all right. I was SO frustrated at some of the turns coming for him but obviously it worked out in the end. Harper was so refreshing. She was light-hearted but also took things seriously. She has her silly reasons for some things but doesn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Her relationship with Owen and the wives was fun and impactful. She got a lot of closure in this book and I was happy for it. I love how the suspense is playing out in these books. This one was frustrating (on behalf of the characters) and there are some red herrings. Above it all, the plot and romance are balanced. I hate a romantic suspense that sacrifices either for the other, so this was great!

This story is yet again another wonderful read from Claire. I did not want to put it down, and was so annoyed when life interrupted my reading time - how rude! Temptation Trails is the seventeenth book I have read by this author, and I loved it! Claire weaves an enticing tale, filling it with charming details, humorous moments, suspenseful drama, and of course - a love story. There are zero spoilers here, but I will say I had a theory about the villain and I was WRONG!! For me to have incorrectly guessed how the plot would unfold is a rare and delightful twist for me as a reader, and it can only be achieved by wonderful authors. It is not by accident that I didn’t figure everything out, it is Claire’s skill in writing and storytelling. I didn’t think I could love a Haven brother as much (maybe more?!) than grouchy Josiah, but single dad Garrett swept me away faster than a squirrel will steal a cookie in Tilikum. I’m glad I don’t have to pick between the brothers because I would refuse. Call me Switzerland! If you enjoy heart warming characters, a charming quirky small town, a single dad, found family, and a suspense that will keep you guessing, I absolutely recommend you check out Temptation Trails. I loved, loved, loved Garrett and Harper (and Owen). The swoons. The brotherly banter. The adorkableness. The small town goodness. The found family. The mystery. All of it. The story had the perfect balance of heartwarming love, real life issues, snort worthy laughs, danger, mystery, spice, plot twists, and deep emotions. I would not have guessed that the moments of the ridiculous absurdity of small town Tilikum would pair so very well with pretty intense romantic suspense but nevertheless Ms Kingsley has concocted the magic formula for mixing and balancing these elements together perfectly. And I am here for all of it. Garrett is a deputy sheriff/detective in his small town of Tillikum. He is also a divorced single dad to 14-year-old Owen. Harper is new to town and is taking over Angel Cakes Bakery for her Aunt Doris. Garrett has no time for relationships and Harper thinks avoiding dating until her 7 years of bad luck ends is probably a good idea. Nevertheless, a missed blind date results in the inevitable start to their relationship. Garrett is the slow, responsible and careful Haven brother but one look at Harper and that’s it, game over, the HEA train is chugging full speed ahead. Unfortunately, not everything is rainbows and hearts in their new love bubble. When the cold case Garrett is investigating parallels some real life happenings and Harper may be the next victim, Deputy Garrett will need to be the fierce protector he’s always been and Harper will have to trust that the universe is not going to hit her with the bad luck sledgehammer. I loved Owen in this story. He was such a wonderful and integral addition to the story rather than a flimsy story prop and he is sweet awkward perfection. The story just would not have been as rich and well rounded without the full development and inclusion of his character. As always with this author, the story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I cannot wait to read which Haven brother falls next.

Harper, a superstitious baker and new to Tilikum has been set up with local sheriff’s deputy and single dad Garrett. While they have a delayed meet cute, once they do meet through Owen, Garrett’s teenage son, it’s very apparent the attraction is mutual. Cute, low spice, romantic suspense with great characters and HEA.

Really great story. Quality writing, good character development, and a nice little twist in the plot mystery. I really liked Harper, Garrett, and Owen together. Claire Kingsley sure does great family series. I got hooked on her writing when I started reading the Miles family series. Then the Bailey Brothers came. And now the Havens. She does an exceptional job at weaving stories built around big, chaotic but loving families. The relationships and conflicts are done well. Claire Kingsley writes in such a way that one wishes they could be a part of the Miles family, or the Bailey brothers family, or the Havens. The way she develops the surrounding towns makes you want to go find one and live in one just like them with characters just like the ones she portrays. I know I would like to find an Echo Creek, or Tilikum. Such an enjoyable read. I highly recommend it as I do the first two books in this series. And the entire Bailey Brothers series before it - and even better yet - start with the Miles family series and move forward from there.
