Fantastic resource for those on the mission to improve themselves, their families or their organizations. De sloping a confident mind takes work and the author explains in well written is to read chapters throughout this book. A must read!
Love this book so much, I'm going to read it again! I had no idea just how negative I was thinking. There's a part in the book where he says to list out 10 wins/good memories in your field, and I couldn't think of any good wins at all, ever, anywhere in my life and then I realized that is so crazy. I am so blessed, I mean I have the luxury to read and work on myself, I am certainly catching some wins. I think I have been holding onto every failure and mistake, constantly torturing myself over them, and ever shriveling up. It feels great to change my mindset.
I'm a day trader with 11 years in and this book is absolutely outstanding. Trading is a performance field just like sports. It's a zero sum game and you have to be mentally on your game every trading day to perform at your best potential. This book gives the skills needed to get mentally prepared to handle the trading day and to mentally handle the inevitable setbacks one will have. I wish I found this book right when it came out in 2022 but better late than never. I see myself reviewing the material in the book at least annually.
I bought the Kindle edition of this book. I had read reviews of this book before it was released and I pre-ordered it. I am about 2/3 thirds of the way through. The majority of examples for using these techniques involve athletes and helping them build confidence, there are other examples as well. This isn’t a quickie ‘I can do it, I can do anything’ kind of book. The author lays out exercises, many of them written for you to do to help you become more confident in what ever you are looking to build you confidence in. For me it is in music. I am primarily a self taught percussionist. I hope the exercises are complied in a final chapter so I don’t have to go back and find them. If you have done any reading at all about the mind body connection, mental healing, meditation, you will see how this book offers a well layer out plan of developing your thinking to achieve your goals. It requires an in-depth look at your mental attitudes. The book also lays out what to do, how to approach your past ‘failures’ and how to deal with current ‘failures’ in your confidence. Overall a very realistic, useable approach to becoming better at what you do.
I have read many books on high performance in sports, the arts, business and even your personal life, but this book is by far the best one and thank you Dr. Nate Zinsser for writing it. It is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to apply. It is built on the very true premise that what we think about most of the time is what our lives truly become, and by focusing on constructive thoughts in our past, present and future, we put ourselves in the best position to really perform when it counts. Mr. Zinsser gives a much better understanding about how to design affective affirmations that actually work in addition to so many important strategies to keep you from being your own worst enemy and thinking less of yourself. Buy this book! Read this book! I am so glad I did!
It doesn't matter if you are an athlete, a CEO, or a student - this book is a must-read for everyone to build confidence and overcome self-doubt. You Matter. You need to speak positively about yourself and to yourself. I can't recommend this book enough for changing your mindset about what you are capable of.
Great tool to continually consult and review to assist in staying on track for all goal oriented performers. To succeed on the highest levels, one needs these tools and Dr. Zinsser provides them in an easy to digest format.
