From USA Today Bestselling Author Callie Hart comes a highly addicting enemies-to-lovers Romantasy with razor-sharp banter, heart-stopping action, and blistering hot romance that you won’t be able to put down! Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key.
Do not open the gate. Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember.
In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn’t much a girl wouldn’t do for a glass of water. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.
When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares…but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed. The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own.
He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her. Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate.
His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he’s the only way Saeris is going to make it home.
Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details... N.B.

“He is the storm. You are the peace that must come after it. Tell me, do you believe in the fates, Alchemist?” Oh God, where to begin? I haven’t felt this way about a book in such a long time and I am so freaking grateful that I decided to start this one. Let’s start by saying I gave this book 5⭐️ and my heart is achingly and anxiously waiting for book 2. Not only the story was captivating, the magic system incredibly interesting and the possibilities huge, but this book managed to deliver a plots and twists while keeping you engaged with the romance, keeping such a great balance in what I am usually looking in romantasies. I swear I couldn’t put it down, my heart was constantly beating so hard. And the characters? Saeris was such a likable main character, strong and brave without being too unrealistic and made me feel everyone of her emotions. Now, the MMC? Kingfisher is EVERYTHING i am sucker for: tortured soul, broody, sarcastic, heart of gold hidden in an aura of darkness. And that mouth? Dirty dirty man. The relationship between Saeris and Fisher was so intense, from not standing each other to pining, longing, yearning and so much love. Ah, I need more. And the side character? Every time a new side character popped out I just fell in love. At first I was like okay, I see you Ren. Then Carrion made me laugh like a freak and became my fave, and then Lorreth? Come on, they were too good, the found family vibes got me in a chokehold. Plus, a book where the world is covered in snow is such a highlight for me. And to make it better? Add a furry friend in the picture, a cute white fox. Note: and the spice was GREAT🔥🌶️
Hart has delivered a rich world with layers of political, social, and magical intrigue. You find yourself genuinely liking the female lead; Saeris is a character who has a personality with depth, strength, and an ability to be vulnerable yet resilient. She is a female lead that despite all things thrown at her she still has fight in her and in fact she keeps forging forward with class and determination. I love that you genuinely experience the emotional and physical journey with her. Kingfisher is the MMC of all your brooding dark dreams. He isn’t too morally grey, yet he has a deep darkness that unravels as you get to know him. He has a layered and extremely well thought deep personality that draws you in to a point of feeling as if you are unwrapping intense complexities of someone who has survived deeply painful events. The romance is a wonderful ride, it has engaging banter and gets you invested not only in how their romance will play out, but how their lives will wind together, weaving a rich story throughout a wonderfully built world. The spice was sprinkled throughout in just the perfect amount with a good moderate slowburn, yet so well written it will definitely get you sweating. The reader really feels the build and tension making the ride enjoyable. Hart has delivered a world where you feel fully enveloped yet not overwhelmed. The pace is really well done as it engages you to keep wanting the next chapter. The side characters all feel valid to the story line and engage you in their stories, they do not feel like they are just there for world building, you genuinely feel like they are intrical to the progress of the story. And to not give spoilers, you will become highly invested in their stories as well.
Okay, where do I even start with Callie Hart's Kingfisher? This book absolutely wrecked me—in the best way possible. I read all 609 pages not once, but twice in just one week. Yes, that's 1218 pages of sheer fantasy awesomeness. I was so obsessed that I used an entire company holiday just to dive into this book. I didn't get anything else done that day, and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. This book is like a fantasy lover’s dream come true. It’s packed with vampires, fae, different realms, and evil royalty. If you’re into the “who did this to you” trope or fated mates, you’re going to be hooked. And if you’re a fan of characters like Rhysand or Xaden, Fisher is going to blow your mind. He’s got that grumpy, sarcastic charm with a side of mysterious darkness that makes you fall head over heels. The world-building in Kingfisher is seriously impressive. I was a bit daunted by the page count at first, but once I got into the groove, I couldn’t stop. The pacing might be a little slow at the start, but stick with it. The story quickly ramps up into a wild ride of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. And the quicksilver magic system? So cool and unique—clearly a lot of thought went into making it feel fresh and exciting. Saeris, the protagonist, is strong, relatable, and just the kind of hero you want to root for. And Fisher? He’s the ultimate shadow daddy—grumpy, sarcastic, and irresistibly hot. The romance is steamy, the political intrigue is intense, and the plot twists are enough to make your head spin. I was so engrossed that I had to set the book down a few times just to process what was happening. In a nutshell, Kingfisher is a phenomenal blend of all my favorite fantasy elements and romance tropes. Callie Hart has officially made it onto my must-read list. If you’re a fan of epic fantasy with amazing characters and steamy romance, you need to grab this book. This is my TOP read of the year, and I’m already itching for the next installment!
