About This Book

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College–Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through.

It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves. Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits–and a will of iron.

And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules. But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College–and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

Audiobook is Annoying

Sara L
May 20, 2024

Loved the book but this graphic audio version is annoying on several levels. First, the conversations between characters are pieced so closely together that there’s hardly a space between them—it’s jarring when they speak. Second—and jarring as well—it’s obviously pieced together because, instead of a fluid story, emphasis is often placed on the wrong word or not at all. As well, whole sentences are missing. Very disappointing for such a well written book.

Emotionally Immature Main Character

Much like the Twilight series, you eventually become deeply annoyed by the main character's emotional immaturity and become team "anyone but her". The sexual tension, and then the sex, are gratuitous. Even the language is littered with lazy foul mouthedness that detracts. If I were to edit the book, I could easily delete quite a bit that contributed nothing, and come up with something decent. I finished the book because I was invested, but it took me a month. The next book needs to be about how Z and his dragon can sever the bond with her as he gets healed, so he can find a woman instead of a powerful little girl.

The first installment of the graphic audio adaptation of Iron Flame is a amazing. The narration is superb, with a talented voice cast that brings the characters to life. The sound design is equally impressive, with sound effects and music that perfectly complement the narrative. The pacing is expertly handled, with a perfect balance of action, suspense, and emotional moments that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The story itself is engaging, intense, and full of unexpected twists and turns. I was completely absorbed in the world of Iron Flame, and I can't wait to see what happens next!! Overall, this graphic audio adaptation is a must-listen. It's a thrilling ride that will leave you on the edge of your seat and wanting more!

This is still as good as the first time I read it. I love the dramatized versions of these books. It really is like a movie. Even though I had already read this I was still sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. Violet gets stronger with every book. She's smart and a fighter. Xaden, well you just kind of fall more in love with him every time. To see his guard come down little by little with Violet is my favorite. The scene with Liam broke my heart even more. Tarin and Andarna is great.

Now I’m spoiled. I don’t want my audiobooks any other way. Just as good as Fourth Wing Part 2, if not improved. It’s great - an audio movie. The voice actors are well selected. Same cast as Fourth’s Wing Part 2 for all the the reoccurring characters. I enjoyed the cast for the new characters as well. (Maj. Barrish is exactly what I didn’t know I was expecting. Perfect.) The sound effects and mix enhance but don’t distract. (Even the kissing scenes are improved - less overdone.) Looking forward to Iron Wing Part 2.
