You can fall in love in a matter of days. It can take years to recover from the loss of it. I know that all too well.
When I fell for Gavin Vaughn, I never expected to watch him marry someone else. The experience changed me, shaped the woman I became. Now he’s divorced and wanting to reconnect after twenty years.
As if that same shattered heart doesn’t still beat inside me. He’s as charming as he ever was, better looking, too. And a star player for the NHL team in the city I just relocated to.
I’m not that same girl who loved him and watched him leave. I’m a woman who built her own empire from scraps. I’m also the woman who will be mentoring his daughter to do the same.
I’m the woman who can still be brought to her knees by the only man she ever cared about. But it’s going to take more than sly smiles and bouquets of flowers to convince me he’s worth my time. Or my heart.

4.5⭐️ 2.5🌶️ I enjoyed this third book in the Seattle Blades series. I can appreciate a book about a hockey player who isn’t the playboy/cocky type. Gavin Vaughn was the opposite of all that. He was a single dad, the veteran of the team and kind of at a crossroads in his life. Newly divorced, he found himself not really knowing what is going to happen after he retires and wishing his life could have gone a bit different. He lives with a few regrets, that he wishes he could right, and he finally gets his chance when the once love of his life shows up in Seattle. Odette Quinn is a successful, hardworking, boss babe who is extremely good at her job of being a celebrity stylist but doesn’t do relationships because of how broken her heart was when Gavin left. She had dreamed of working in fashion since she was a teen and chased her dreams. Life threw her a curveball when she was asked to mentor young, aspiring fashion gurus and she wanted to slow her life down a bit, so she moves across country and accepts the job. She meets these students; one student in particular named Tori stands out to her. Lo and behold, Tori is Gavin’s daughter. Immediately, Odette’s walls are up, not wanting her heart to get involved with Gavin again. She has never been able to have a stable relationship because of how broken her heart was, so not letting Gavin back in is her top priority. Gavin is determined to get to know Odette again and to prove to her that he still loves her. His last relationship was transactional, and although there was love there, it wasn’t the type of love he wanted, and his ex, wasn’t Odette. Odette can see that Gavin isn’t a bad person and why things went down the way they did when they were younger. Slowly, Odette realizes that Gavin is the person she’s been wanting all along and that she’ll regret it if she doesn’t try again with him. I loved how patient Gavin was with Odette. He realized that he wasn’t going to get her back easily and was all in with trying to make her see that he made mistakes, and he owns them. Him and Odette had strong, undeniable chemistry and when they gave in, it was impossible not to root for them. Great book!
Odette playing hard to get and acting like there is nothing there. This book is so good. The past came back. I think for the better. This is a very good read.
I don’t know how I feel about this one. I think he was still way too involved with his ex. It seemed that they were still too close. Yes, they shared a child, but it was too much for me. I couldn’t handle that. Also, he didn’t grovel enough for me. His attitude kind of irked me. Still, an interesting read.
This book was such a great read. I liked the main characters as well as the side characters. There was so much hurt and the scene where you find out what she saw (don't want to spoil anything) at 18 and how it destroyed her was heartbreaking. I love everything Alison Rhymes writes....she never disappoints!
What a fun read! I really enjoyed Tempest! Odette and Gavin had a rough road, but they finally found their way back to each other!
I love everything Alison Rhymes has written and this book just reinforced that fact. Characters are fantastic, the drama is so gut wrenching, tears fell. I now need to get this in print. Amazing story!
A renewed opportunity for love. Odette has shielded her heart, maintaining an emotional distance to protect herself from vulnerability, until Gavin's sudden return unsettles her delicate equilibrium. Traversing the intricate path of mending old wounds and creating a future together!
The story of Ode and Gavin was filled with heartache, pain with love and redemption. Gavin did untold harm to the girl he loved when he married his best friend Caroline because she was pregnant with his baby. This is the beginning of the story but not the end of Gavin’s love for Ode. It is a book about building back shattered trust to earn the HEA both main characters deserve. One of the best books I have read all year and one that leaves you wanting more for this couple. Bravo to Author Alison Rhymes for giving us a heroine with depth and grit. A hero who is man enough to try to repair what he broke. I loved every grovel, almost every gesture ( you’ll have to read the book for that one.).
