Briggs and Autumn are great main characters. Briggs is a hockey player who has lost his way since learning his father's cancer has come back. Autumn is a public relations expert who helps rebuild his reputation. Love happens. But is it real? The book has a great ending - be sure to have a box of facial tissues close by when reading.
Other than feeling super fast, this was a great read! The author is great with details and descriptions, something I actually feel most people skip these days. Try chemistry is wonderful right from the first meet up! they fall quickly but it’s done so well! And the side characters def intrigue and keep you invested to learn their stories! HEA - yes Cliffhanger - No Steam - Yes, but not the whole book, well balanced!
Perfect combination of sports romance, brothers best friend, and girl next door vibes I have ever read! The pages will turn themselves soo worth the read!!
Great natural development of the characters and their relationships with each other. It read a bit long for me as I am a character reader and I didn’t absolutely LOVE Autumn or Briggs. I liked Autumn but for a professional problem solver she didn’t solve any of her own. She never spoke up for herself or Briggs when it came to Isaac, until it didn’t matter anymore. She never spoke up for herself or her skill set when Derek literally put this whole scheme in jeopardy, and she literally didn’t have a viable excuse to not turn him into Erika, she was even called out on it. It felt like she was supposed to come off super capable and independent and like a boss bitch, but truthfully I didn’t see have one difficult conversation by herself, and I didn’t see her defend herself or her relationship until the obstacle had already taken care of itself by other means. Briggs was fine, and complimented Autumn well, but the reformed player trope doesn’t hit the same here as it has in other books. I think the author did a great job of laying ground work, I found myself looking for the background characters and growing more and more interested in their potential stories
I wanted to love it really badly, but the whole story felt a bit forced and everything wraps up so fast at the end that it didn’t feel worth reading. It’s quick and cute and if you want a sweet fast wrapped up with a bow on top “hockey” romance then this is for you. Considering the MMC is a hockey player and the FMC is allegedly a massive hockey fan, I expected there to be more hockey involved, but it was more like it was just his job. *Mild Spoilers * I hate when books wrap up too perfectly and this was no exception. The FMC decides to quit her job and her boss offers her a years salary as a severance and then the next day calls her back and offers her a new position with double the salary. I am just not a fan of those endings. The ex boyfriend played no part in this story and was essentially a useless character. The brother, whose opinion meant everything to the characters was only heard from twice. And there were chapters highlighting other people’s relationships as they will more than likely be the subject of follow up books. It’s fine to establish characters, but wastes these characters time as it does not develop their story. The book takes place over the course of one month, which is apparently enough time to completely change someone’s bad boy image. I don’t mind fast time lines, but I do like realistic ones and this whole story was rushed. *end spoilers* There are many typos in this book, so I hope the author is able to go back and edit. Overall I wanted to like it, but it was just a big miss for me, but I’m sure others will love it. Tropes: Brothers best friend Childhood crush Hockey romance Triggers: Talk about SA (not on page) Manipulative EX Parent with cancer
A very cute story with all the warm fuzzies! Definitely the kind of read that brings a smile to your face.
I really enjoyed this book! The only reason it wasn’t a five star for me was because there was so many fluff paragraphs that I was skipping so much of the book and just reading the dialogue especially in the beginning. Once it got past 30% it was a lot better but that first 30% there was so much detail that I felt wasn’t needed. Briggs got himself in a sticky situation with a PR nightmare and needed to clean up his act. His best friend‘s little sister up being on the PR team at a media firm and his offered up to be his fake girlfriend to get him on the right track since they’ve known each other since childhood. they both start developing feelings, even though the threat of her MMA fighting brother/Briggs‘s best friend find out about the relationship. This is my first book by Kenna King and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of Hawkeyes hockey series.
I really enjoyed the characters personalities. The story was fun to follow with a decent amount of comedy and suspense mixed in with the romance.
