This was my kind of story. Once i picked it up, i couldnt put it down. Its a quick read, easy to follow, characters are likeable, and it keeps you engaged. So many things i didnt see coming. I loved everything about this book, except for the last page. Without giving anything away, it feels like the author jumped forward in time.but forgot to tell us. Even with that, I'm very excited for the sequel.

Heartless Hunter was such a thrilling read and as different of a romantic fantasy as I've read in a long time! Yes there are witches and magic and romance (all very typical for this genre), but the atmosphere felt fresh and original in a way I hadn't expected complete with a magic system that felt entirely unique. Rune, the main female protagonist, is a witch and a vigilante, making her a true badass boss! She is also extremely clever, which society easily overlooks because of her disarming beauty. She effortlessly pretends to be nothing but a beautiful socialite, eager to host her next ball, when in actuality, she is a cunning witch plotting to execute her next rescue, helping to free other witches from capture, torture and certain death. In order to get more intel on the witches captured, one in particular whom she feels especially responsible for, Rune decides to court Gideon Sharpe, a notorious witch hunter second in command to the leader of the revolution. I think what I loved most about this book, (and there were a lot of things!) was how complex the characters actually were. Neither Rune or Gideon was truly, wholly good or evil. Each of their actions, good or bad, came from a decent place, or at least started with good in their hearts. I loved how Ciccarelli wrote such intricate characters in such a beautifully thought-out magical world. I also especially loved the tension between Rune and Gideon; two true enemies! This was such a fun read with lots of heart-stopping moments and exciting twists that had me glued to the page. I cannot wait to see what unfolds between the witch and her hunter in the next book! If you haven't read this one yet, I highly recommend this fresh new romantasy!

4.5 stars! I kept seeing this book pop up in my recommendations but I held off since it’s not a complete series. I’m glad I went for it. Finished it in 2 days! This book was an easy read, I loved the characters and the ending was pretty good. Although I did guess the twist early on- still, many things happened that surprised me. I usually hate love triangles. I think this is because they are mostly done so poorly, like the author forces it on you just to have one. However, in this book it works, and I actually found myself unsure of who I’d want to choose if I was Rune. Although it gets resolved in the end, I thought the author did a great job with it. Spoiler: My one complaint and the reason I took off half a star is that I wish we had gotten Gideon’s pov when he snuck into Rune’s house and found out she was a witch. I know why the author did it (so we didn’t see Rune walking into a trap) but I feel like it was a pivotal moment that we were left in the dark on, and I would have liked to have seen his initial reaction to it. Especially since it would have been heartbreaking for him! Even as a flashback would have been nice, but all we got was a stone cold Gideon once Rune walks into the trap and it almost seemed out of character how he had absolutely no emotion.

I'm OBSESSED with this book!! And it's perfect for the spooky season! This enemies to lovers (and it's the REAL deal!) witchy romantasy has a unique atmosphere that sucks you in immediately. It has a very definite hunter x prey vibe that does not go away at all. But the tables are always turning and sometimes you don't know if the hunter/hunted is the actual witch hunter, Gideon, or if it's the witch, Rue. Both of them are confident and charismatic characters. I really really loved that both sides' aims and reasons for doing what they do made perfect sense to me. So, if I had to take sides, I'd definitely be in trouble...and I'm all for that!! The worldbuilding is not overly comlicated and it's intriguing. Balls, dresses, and magic! We get some nice slow burn, and forbidden love, of course. I also appreciated the mystery and plot turns. They kept me on edge, my heart was constantly pumping through the tension filled action. This book is an absolute page-turner and I will recommend it to anyone who listens!!
