How many times did you cry while reading this book? yes ... γβπ©ππππππ ππππ ππ πππππ ππ πππ, πΊππππππ π³ππππ, π°βπ πππ ππ.β βπ΄π πππ.β βπΎππππ πππ ππ, π° ππ.β βπ·ππππππ?β βπ° πππππππ.βγ β°ββ€This is the conclusion to Johnny and Shannon's story. There is even more drama in this book than the first. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to ruin it for anybody who may see this and has not yet read the first. But it picks up right where the first book left off and this book follows the aftermath with the Lynch children. β°ββ€This book was EVERYTHING. When I tell you I lost count of how many times I cried, I am serious, it is not an exaggeration. This book destroyed my catastrophically. I had to continuously take breaks for my own mental health. It is just such a real, emotional, thought provoking story, it had that power over me while reading it. Shannon, omg I adore her, that sweet and strong girl who overcame so much that she should have never had to handle. Getting to know the 3 other brothers better this story also made me feel connected to those little beans so it made it worse for my emotional well being lol. And Joey and his martyr complex and having to take care of everybody in his mind because of what his parents had done, I hope he gets the best ending of them all, he deserves rest. Overall, this is the most beautiful story I have ever read, and it will stick with me for probably the rest of my life, it was that intense and made that much of an impact on me. I am both excited and terrified to move on to Saving 6, but I need Joey's story so continue on I will. I still love this story but there are some caveats. Pros I love their relationship. It's obviously codependent but insatiably sweet nonetheless. The author does dialogue very, very well. It feels natural and realistic. It could get a little long winded at times but for the most part it was still very well done. I love all the characters for all different reasons. Whatever I felt for the characters in the previous book was merely amplified in this book. Well maybe not for Lizzie. While I'm still unsure about her, my interest is indeed piqued. This book doesn't have as much abuse as book one. This book focuses more on the aftermath of said abuse, which I appreciated. The climax was intense, in a good way. Cons The dialogue could get a little ramble-y, juvenile, and long winded. Often, I'd skim past a lot of it because I got the gist. The book didnβt need to be this long. It slowed down and became repetitive around the middle and then again at the very end. I'm not a huge fan of books with teenaged spice. It just feels icky. But I appreciated the author cutting those scenes off before it got too intense. With all that said, I still loved this book. This was surprisingly, slower than the first but also much more eventful, if that makes sense. I do intend to read the next book because I'm invested in Joey's story. I very much enjoyed it and 100% recommend it. Because of these two books, I'm officially in my first book slump.
Itβs difficult to articulate just how much these books have impacted me. Iβm talking completely and utterly consumed my thoughts for nearly a week straight(they are thick!). This series is a favorite of my bestie (and I understand why!) and although I thought I had a sense of what was in store, I was in no way prepared for the devastation, torment, and sheer perfection that is the Boys of Tommen series. Chloe Walsh weaves a powerfully compelling story of first love and heartache, found family and survival. The writing is absolutely brilliant. Powerful and emotive with a dose of humor that is nuanced and subtle and perfectly balances the very tough and very real themes in these books. The dialogue and the banter, especially between Johnny and Gibsie, is top notch. These characters are layered and relatable and face very real issues having realistic reactions and emotions. And with the authorβs evocative writing, you can feel the triumph and joy just as deeply as the anxiety and heartache. The romance is an absolutely beautiful yet glacially slow burn, but the highlight of these books is not the spice. Itβs about the emotional connection and the storyline. About these charactersβ journeys and their relationships and connections with each other. Iβm not sure I can think of another book or series that have hit me in quite the same way as these books have. They are truly incomparable. If you only read romance with high levels of spice and smut these books are probably not for you. But if you are willing to take an emotional journey that will tear apart your heart before stitching it back together, then dive on in and donβt forget the tissues!
