About This Book

In Believing Is Seeing, Dr. Guillen recounts the fascinating story of his journey from atheism to Christianity, citing the latest discoveries in neuroscience, physics, astronomy, and mathematics to pull back the curtain on the mystery of faith as no one ever has. Is it true that “seeing is believing?” Or is it possible that reality can be perceived most clearly with the eyes of faith ― and that truth is bigger than proof?

Let Dr. Guillen be your guide as he brilliantly argues for a large and enlightened worldview consistent with both God and modern science.

Introduction

Venture into the compelling journey of a physicist whose quest for scientific truth unexpectedly led him to embrace faith. Balancing intricate scientific concepts with profound spiritual insights, this narrative challenges preconceived notions about the dichotomy between science and belief. Through a candid exploration of his personal transformation, discover how uncovering the mysteries of the universe opened a doorway to a deeper understanding of faith's necessity.

Key Takeaways

Belief and science can coexist enhancing understanding of both realms. Scientific discovery encourages deep reflection on life's spiritual dimensions. Personal transformation is possible when challenged by faith and reason.

Detailed Description

This book tells the story of a physicist whose quest for understanding shattered his atheistic worldview. His exploration into the fundamental laws of nature gradually revealed the limitations of science in addressing life's profound questions. With each new discovery he realized that scientific inquiry alone could not satisfy his search for meaning.

Drawn into uncharted territories he embraced the symbiosis between scientific insight and faith. He recounts moments of revelation when the elegant complexity of the universe pointed towards a greater purpose. These experiences ushered him into unanticipated dialogue with ideas he once dismissed.

Each chapter intricately weaves scientific explanations with the philosophical questions they provoke challenging readers to reconsider predetermined notions. As the narrative unfolds it becomes evident that faith far from opposing science provides it with a profound depth and context. Believing is Seeing is not solely the tale of one man’s transformation but an invitation for readers to embark on their own journey.

Through addressing skepticism and doubt it invites contemplation of broader existential questions. The exploration doesn’t demand giving up reason but rather merging it with faith for enriched understanding.

Standout Features

The author uniquely bridges the perceived gap between empirical evidence and spirituality offering a perspective seldom explored in modern discourse By intertwining personal anecdotes with groundbreaking scientific theories readers gain insight into an unexpected harmony between these seemingly disparate fields. \nCrafted with clarity complex scientific principles become accessible to both budding scientists and spiritual seekers This informs and captivates audiences across the knowledge spectrum while gently nudging them towards introspection about their beliefs Grounded in authenticity this narrative isn’t just an exposition of ideas but a genuine account of transformation As readers delve deeper they find not just a story but a mirror reflecting their own hesitations encouraging them to confront and reconcile their beliefs with the universe's mysteries.

This is a must-read for anyone, whether they are a believer or not. Dr. Michael Guillen is someone you want to listen to, with his 3D Ph.D. in astronomy, physics and mathematics from Cornell. If you have any intellectuals or scientists in your life, give them the gift of this book! Yet his writing is easy reading and simply fascinating for anyone. His book is a testimony to how God and Science DO go together...and he shows how! I just read it and have already ordered two more for others. I plan on ordering even more for Christmas gifts. Don't even hesitate on this one!

A Physicist Explains How Science Shattered His Atheism and Revealed the Necessity of Faith” by Michael Guillen, Ph.D. Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 2021. A very intriguing book, especially Michael Guillen’s rather unique and refreshing style for presenting deep scientific and religious concepts effectively in an almost conversational person-to-person way. As such, his conversationally-led journey from a narrow secular Scientific Perspective (i.e., Scientism Worldview) to his much broader, more-balanced and much more satisfying faith-based worldview of Science that also encompasses a firm belief in Creation by Design, a Creator & Designer – God includes sharing his carefully-considered reasons for accepting the Christian Faith. The way he applies the known science concerning the Human Brain and its Left-Half (LH) and the Right-Half (RH) which are publicly understood to reflect a balance between Logic and Emotion are presented in a very unique and interesting way to form a broader & wiser worldview that encompasses both science and religion. His central point is that both Science and Religion are Faith-Based and he proceeds to effectively demonstrate and support his position. He discusses how the Science of Today with its amazing progress & discoveries such as the proven & confirmed “Big Bang Theory” by the Hubble & COBE Satellites along with the remarkable advances in our detailed understanding of microbiology and the cell, etc. have broadened the scope of what should be considered to be open-minded scientific curiosity and discovery whether or not they can be seen or proven. Even secular scientism today is based on many assumptions and axioms that have not and often cannot be proven. As a highly-qualified and experienced multi-disciplinary scientist, he provides many excellent examples of known science and how they relate to a belief in God as well as how both are faith-based on beliefs. Hence, his book’s title: “Believing is Seeing” that underscores the role of faith as providing an improved path to open-minded scientific discovery than the narrower and traditional “Seeing is Believing” science dictum. Christian Evangelists may find this book very intuitive as well as useful as a way to reach those (and there are many) with a Secular & Scientific Worldview. His journey, as told by Michael Guillen, Ph.D., a prominent and highly qualified scientist from a Atheistic and secular scientific worldview to a much broader Christian worldview provides an excellent & explained example they might relate and follow. Starting from the non-believer’s current worldview may, in some cases, be a much more effective approach than the traditional starting point at the Cross or somewhere in the middle of the Christian Story. In conclusion, an excellent book with interesting science facts for the general public with novel concepts about the relationship between Science and Christianity.

I borrowed this book from the public library originally, it was so good I had to buy it. It’s Ideal to give this book to young people in their senior year of high school BEFORE they go off to college and get their brain washed and broken. Just a fantastic book.

Great book for those seeking to understand, and for those just curious about the mysteries beyond.

I had a mysterious experience many years ago, one that I grappled to understand the purpose of, that I viewed as a cruel trick, perhaps a trick of my mind, perhaps a mind trick someone else played on me. With the absolute and pure beauty of that experience, there was a strong element of conflict. And it was not something that could be explained in everyday terms. If I had tried, I was certain, people would wonder if I had lost my marbles. Since then, I have wondered and now learned that many of us have these mysterious experiences. And I am not afraid anymore. Yes, I was afraid because of the conflict that I felt. While I enjoyed this book, the most important part of the book came to me on page 70, the authors Titanic moment, his moment that is difficult to describe and explain. This book has helped me greatly. It is helping me to undertand the conflict as being the battle between the IQ and the SQ, and accepting it and trusting it as healthy. I guess my journey is ongoing. I have not found my destiny, although I do believe that the journey is part of my destiny or perhaps my destiny itself. I hope the book will help you as it helped me. Perhaps, it help you value the trait of open-mindedness, and appreciate the beauty around us, in things living or not, perhaps expand your worldview, perhaps help you find peace in the conflict within you.

There’s no accounting for bad reviews.

Read this book. Read it. Author graduated from Cornell U, instructed at Harvard, and was the scientific investigative journalist for Good Morning America, yet you have people in the reviews contradicting his statements sourcing Google. The book can’t have possibly been “deeply disappointing” to the 1 star giver since this person was clearly reading in order to tear down with a prejudice view to begin with. Guillen writes the book with scientific facts along with revelation. He adds his life experiences including his Pentecostal background in order to be honest and authentic about his journey. He rejected his faith in the name of science and then learned without faith there is very little to no science. A house of cards. A straw man. He learns from his near decade at Cornell U that believing is the only way to see. If you are someone who likes to tear down views opposing yours regardless of the facts presented, my recommendation to you is don’t bother reading this book. If you are searching for truth or even the possibility of truth and you are willing to listen and learn I highly recommend this well written intelligent book. It is filled with scientific evidence supporting the theory of intelligent design that thousands of scientists now support over evolutionism. I recommend emphatically that you do read this book.
