First few chapters are great. Trip is for later in year but using this to make rough plans and really enjoy his format. Will likely use his books for other countries and trips in future as both wife and I agree this is very helpful.
I have never been disappointed by any of Rick Steves’ guide books. They provide wonderful information on cites, their backgrounds and suggested walks, restaurants and places to stay. He always writes in an engaging manner.
We purchased this book as we are going to Spain next year and are glad that we did. The information for each city is comprehensive and ideal for planning the sites to see including maps of each city. We will take it with us on our trip.
If you're planning a trip to Spain, I would highly recommend this book. It is filled with suggestions, ideas, money saving tips, traveling tips, information on the entire country and so much more. So glad I purchased this book!
I grew up traveling on "Lonely Planet" guides. I met the author in a pie shop in Kathmandu in the 70s when he was expanding his first book, which was the only one for us young people, telling it like it is, where to get stuff, what to avoid, and how to do it cheap.) Fast forward to "older, more mature" now. Rick Steve's Guides fit the bill. Detailed, how to do it yourself, how to avoid being ripped off, heavy on cultural awareness. I still buy Lonely Planet Guidebooks and match them with Rick Steve's guidebooks. Rick Steve's is a bit fast-paced frankly, showing you how to see "10 cities in 10 days" or "3 museums, 2 castles and 2 cathedrals" the first day you arrive in your city on the 7am flight while waiting to check into your hotel... Having said that, there's nothing wrong with taking HIS plan and doing it over 4 days. he shows you what's possible. You can do it at your own pace. In that, his books are quite helpful in planning itineraries and explaining why you need to see what in what order. I appreciate his overall philosophy of travel which he weaves into all his books - respect, culture, awareness, appreciation, kindness. That's how one should travel always. So, "Spain" in particular? Everything above applies. We've used this book to plan our upcoming trip to Spain with confidence.
