I loved Rick Steve's guide. The information here and on his website was invaluable and really saved my family's (hastily planned) trip to Rome. HOWEVER, I ended up with this larger guide for Rome and the pocket guide for Athens, and I strongly recommend the pocket guide: 1 - It literally fit in my back pocket and was fine there all day until I needed it. 2 - It was much easier to find what I was looking for quickly... Several times in Rome I was stuck flipping through, looking for something we just read last night and not able to find it "on the go." I highly recommend Rick Steve's guides and advice on his website... But using the two different versions back to back I wish I had the smaller one with me on our trip. link here: https://www.amazon.com/Rick-Steves-Pocket-Rome/dp/1641715456/ref=sr_1_4?crid=16W80DN03DS1C&keywords=rick+steves+rome+2023+guide+book+pocket&qid=1687197612&sprefix=rick+steves+rome%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-4
An extensive guide to all things Rome. My husband and I used it to plan our recent trip.
This guide was the best of many I reviewed. Accompanied by his audio tours we were able to do many tours on our own. The insights and recommendations were invaluable. Made our trip a success.
Despite some info being dated and thus inaccurate, it served its purpose well.
For additional value, download Rick's free audio walking tours of Rome to your phone before you leave. I did several of the walking tours and got a better appreciation of what I was seeing.
I ordered this book on a whim and it arrived the day before I flew out to Italy. By far, this is the best travel guide book I’ve ever gotten. The book covers everything under the sun- recommendations for restaurants, hotels, how to avoid common scams, common Italian phrases, etc. There was even info about the recent worker’s strikes, which ultimately helped us figure out how to navigate our travel from the airport to the hotel. I will likely rely on the wisdom of Rick Steves for most, if not all of my future travel to Europe!
Rick Steves - Rome: A must have for anyone heading to Rome, especially for the 1st time! So comprehensive, organized, and easy to read. The man knows his stuff!
