Even though I have never actually lived in New York, I have been many times and love exploring the city on foot. There's nothing I like more than walking around, discovering hidden charming corners here and there. This is not a NYC travel guide. You won't see any of the classical NYC landmarks on it. It's a book for people who have already seen all the tourist attractions and want to know the more private NYC. I really appreciate it that the author included the location of every picture. I felt so represented by this book content...I love NYC because there is so much more than a lively city with big skyscrapers and this is exactly how I like to visit the city: walking around and finding beautiful spots.
I read this book before our trip to NYC recently and we ended up going to Pete's Tavern, which was awesome and of course visited a few other landmarks too. Highly recommend!
Most of our lives our given over to experiential epochs. Being bourne, opening our eyes on to spaces, and giving specific destinations their moments in time-their meanings-and their names. For the student, or pedestrian, the most entrenched, and enticing celebrations of moody architecture, provocative entry-ways is plotted out like square dimensions in an accessible expanse; in New York City we achieve a frenetic psychology; the pathology of leaving a leafy neighborhood to descend on to a cultured square. The energy of the one village does not portend the same events deposited by a historic block with distressed musings. I can't imagine dreaming at the pyx of a swirling landscape lane stream. I would seek expressions of prosperity as I observed objects not a part of an universal consciousness. This book is such an awesome idea!-and it's New York City. Pictures mostly of building fronts and with precise tones and adornments, there are pictures which relay the themes of entire streets. What is encompassed in each photograph is also given a well informed and precise summary. There's so much literary and niche history that's tied up in Susan Kaufman's city walks.
Beautiful subject, beautiful photographs, high quality printing
Loved all of these beautiful photos! Each photo had great quality! This is the perfect gift for yourself or even to gift to a friend!
In my many years of living, I have never been to New York City, but found this book, beautiful and fascinating, and I am waiting for the opportunity to visit some of these homes and streets. My only regret is that this book is not twice as large as it is !
I have lived in NYC my entire life and I know, passed by and stopped in to some of these locations as well. The photos are beautiful. Crisp and clear. Makes want to visit these locations again! Never seen some of the locations pictured like this before. For me, well worth the money to have this book in my collection.
I first fell in love with Susan Kaufman’s pictures on Instagram, like so many others, and anxiously waited for this book. I absolutely love the pictures, and the suggested walks. I will be in NYC later this summer and can’t wait to get back there and do at least one of her suggested walks She brings the city alive. I grew up there and so many images bring me back to the best side of life in the city. I couldn’t recommend this book more! I’ve gifted it multiple times and it’s always a winner.
