Compelling. Kelly Bishop’s life story. Her energy makes me feel like I should get up and do something. Well written. I kept trying to slow down reading by researching dancers and actresses that she mentioned, but I finished the book in one day. Descriptions of people and places were vivid. I felt like I was right there with her.
A beautifully crafted piece of art by a legend. Broadway, history, culture, all in one. Kelly Bishop tells tales from her life with an incredible voice it’s as if you’re with her. I can envision the moments. I loved her before, now she’s top tier in my opinion. Stories of Broadway you’d never hear without her. It’s a comfort and joy to behold.
I bought this book and read it in one day! Kelly Bishop opens her life and her heart for all to experience. I laughed, I cried, and I felt this book down to my soul. This book helped me open up to one of my children in a way I never could. For those of us who love theater, have performed our hearts out on stage, this book shows you the meaning of "What I Did For Love." This won't be the only time I read this book. Don't miss this book, it's absolutely incredible! Thank you, Kelly Bishop!
This woman never stops! She knew from age 8 she wanted to dance & she did - daily ballet at a local studio sent her to NYC to audition for the ABT. She didn't make it, but she adapted & kept dancing - Rockettes B team, Vegas shows, World's Fair Extravaganza, touring companies, off-Broadway, & eventually Broadway - A Chorus Line that earned her a Tony Award. Approaching the end of a dancer's career at 35, she did commercials, day jobs on a soap to transition to acting. If you're looking for gossip on Gilmore Girls, it's not here. She recounts how great the work & team were & how much she loved the character of Emily. She went on to do other TV, movies, & theatre & is still working at 80. She seems genuinely surprised by her international recognition w/the Netflix reboot of AYITL. Her persistence & belief that she had to pay her way is refreshing. She displays an admirable resilience throughout her career & writes with remarkable kindness & generosity toward those who helped her. It's a quick read, but tells the story of an optimistic life.
