About This Book

Bette Midler’s A GIFT OF LOVE includes 18 of her best love songs. This new collection spotlights a number of incredibly poignant tracks, like her cover of Marshall Crenshaw’s “My Favorite Waste Of Time” from No Frills (1983); “Every Road Leads Back To You” from the soundtrack to her film For the Boys (1991); “Shining Star” from Bette (2000); plus five tracks from her platinum release Bette of Roses (1995), including “It’s Too Late” and “As Dreams Go By.” A GIFT OF LOVE would not be complete without three of Midler’s biggest hits: “The Rose” from the 1979 film of the same name in which Midler starred; the #1 Grammy-winning smash “Wind Beneath My Wings” from another Midler film, Beaches; and “From A Distance,” from her double-platinum album Some People’s Lives (1990).

I purchase everything that Bette puts out and I was not disappointed with this CD. Great songs and the re-mastering was awesome on some of the older songs. The album has one of my favorite songs..."Let Me Just Follow Behind" and as typical Bette is phenomenal!!

I think you will enjoy it, if you like her soundtrack from Beaches

I got this as a gift for my mom for her birthday. She is a big Bette Midler fan. The CD has a lot of the old classics but a few songs that you may not heard as often. I think you will enjoy it, if you like her soundtrack from Beaches.

I will tell every one about it

The "Divine Miss M." has has been singing her way into people's hearts since her eponymous 1972 debut, soon becoming an accomplished and platinum-selling artist, and earning numerous distinctions and accolades along the way. Just last year, with her covers album, "It's the girls!", she became only the second female singer, after Barbra Streisand, to score a Top 10 album in 5 consecutive decades. That album, also, marked her highest debut week sales ever, and her second-highest position in the US after the "Beaches" soundtrack, proof that she remains strong and current. Fresh from the success of both that record, and her Divine Intervention Tour, she chooses some of her best love songs for this, her 4th compilation album, showcasing the romantic side of her repertoire. Throughout her career, many of her signature hits have focused on matters of the heart, and this new collection includes highlights from albums she recorded between 1976-2014. With no songs from her first albums, and no less than 5 from her 2000 "Bette of roses", clearly the content seems uneven as far as the material used is concerned, concentrating on her most mainstream and commercial period. Although there are not any tracks that should not be listed on this, there are certainly others that could have been included. At the top of my head, her version of "Do you want to dance?", and "The glory of love" are both rightful candidates for different reasons. A couple of unexpected entries, provide some balance to the set. A nice surprise, also, is the 2 songs previously exclusive on the Target edition of "It's the girls!" that are now available ["(Talk to me of) Mendocino", "The hunter gets captured by the game"], much to the delight of non-US fans especially. It is great that all tracks have been remastered; that is obvious to those of us who have listened to most of these again and again over the years. Below, I have listed all songs featured on here, and what album each is taken from. Fans and collectors should note that the UK edition of this has a different, poppier artwork (photo 3). Overall, this is a wonderful compilation, only spoilt by the excessive number of tracks selected from one album at the expense of some which should have made the cut, and by the absence of any new songs. Special mention for the beautiful title track, and the stunning "To deserve you", an ovelooked gem outside Europe. Tracklisting: 1. My favorite waste of time [from "No frills" (1983)] 2. In this life [from "Bette of roses" (1995)] 3. The gift of love [from "Some people's lives" (1990)] 4. Bed of roses [from "Bette of roses" (1995)] 5. Wind beneath my wings [from "Beaches OST" (1988)] 6. From a distance [from "Some people's lives" (1990)] 7. Come rain or come shine [from "For the boys OST" (1991)] 8. The Rose [from "The Rose OST" (1979)] 9. As dreams go by [from "Bette of roses" (1995)] 10. It's too late [from "Bette of roses" (1995)] 11. All I need to know [from "No frills" (1983)] 12. Every road leads back to you [from "For the boys OST" (1991)] 13. Shining star [from "Bette" (2000)] 14. To deserve you [from "Bette of roses" (1995)] 15. Night and day [from "Some people's lives" (1990)] 16. (Talk to me of) Mendocino [from "It's the girls!" (2014)]* 17. The hunter gets captured by the game [from "It's the girls!" (2014)]* 18. Let me just follow behind [from "Songs for the New Depression" (1976)] * previously featured on Target edition of "It's the girls!"
