great sound, delivered in perfect condition
I think this is an overall quality top notch songwriting album. Asteral Weeks was the first Morrison album i had heard. I knew it was experimental and enjoyed it. I am about 75% a fan of mainly instrumental music so for a work that is meant to be based on lyrics i can be slightly critical of it. Morrison is the real deal and even if you are not that into his music you have to appreciate his range with style and vocal delivery. Moondance it totally different from Weeks and this difference is hard to come by. More commonly artist try to be versatile and you can tell they are trying to hard. With Moondance just listen to the fist 5 tracks and they are in totally different rock styles. The 3rd track sound like a quality soul song and Morrison makes his voice sound about as soulful as a white guy can get. Caravan is a great rock song that i have seen several jam bands cover. It is a song that can go in different directions easily. Granted this is a pop album but it has a mature feel to it that makes it seem again of a high quality. When i say high quality i mean the compositions seems fully realized. Morrison seems to have his material together when he goes into the studio.
I bought this to introduce my daughter. She loves I, I love it. I love his voice/style then and now!!
If I had to rate this album with words, I would have to call it a classic. This is to Van Morrison what Sgt. Pepper was to the Beatles, What Exile on Main St. was to the Rolling Stones, what Every Picture Tells A Story was to Rod Stewart, what Aja was to Steely Dan, what Who's Next was to the Who, and what Brothers in Arms was to Dire Straits. In Southern California, the first 6 songs (And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Crazy Love, Caravan (performed in the movie "The Last Waltz"), Into the Mystic, and Come Running), are ALL popular classics. 7 - These Dreams of You is almost like a shuffling soulful jazzy R&B. The horns add a nice touch to the song. 8 - Brand New Day is almost an extension of "And it Stoned Me". Same theme, and same soul. Back up singers almost give it a gospel feel. I could see this being backed up by the Chicago Mass Choir. 9 - Everyone is the odd one on this one, It could almost be considered a throwaway, but you would really miss it if it weren't on the album. It opens with a harpsichord, later a flute and drums join in (perhaps a preview of coming attractions when he joined the Chieftons on "Celtic Heart"). 10 - Glad Tidings is a rocking little song that presents the afterlife (looking at the afterlife as something to be glad about - a reunion of souls if you will, which is actually the REAL us). Another song that would be missed if omitted. Overall, this should be considered a top 50 classic. If it isn't in your collection, it should be.
A must have. I think this will be the album I show off to guests to show how good an album can sound. Amazing with such an old original recording. Or maybe that is part of the reason. And the music is so damn good! As the man says “it’s got soul.”
Album was in perfect shape. Great present for my wife.
Any Van Morrison fan knows this album is amazing. It sounds absolutely perfect on my record player. The album arrived quickly and was securely packaged. Very happy with this purchase!
It sounds beautiful. Not like a typical repop.180g vinyl. Not digitally tampered with. Nice quality record.
