This is an excellent production. My 6 year old listened to it so much that I think the whole family has it memorized. Then she took a break from it and I started missing Martha Sowerby and others. I also just ordered one for a friend's daughter. I completely recommend it.
Excellent book acted out in audio. It brings the book to life as you read. Wonderful acting puts emphasis on every word of the story. This is a terrific children's book anyway and to hear it acted out is just wonderful. Love this! Good buy for me and for anyone who loves this book.
Radio Theatre has done a lovely job of dramatizing a well-loved story. It is a faithful, if not exact, telling of the book. The characters develop, though not as much as in the book. It was an enjoyable 2 hours-ish of listening. You can listen to the CD without knowing the story and enjoy it completely.
It was just as described
This is our family favorite. A great way to spend 2 hours while traveling on the road together. Pleasing for adults and small children. Great companion to Silas Marner as well. The FOTF Radio dramas are masterfully produced, and they deftly and quietly bring out Christian themes such as the transforming power of love that you don't get in school. We listen to them over and over again in the car.
We love Focus on the Family Radio Theater! They did a wonderful job with the Secret Garden, its very entertaining. We listen to these on long car rides and even on shorter car rides. Our kids love radio theater. We have the Chronicles of Narnia and have listened to the stories too many times to count. Secret Garden was a lot of fun to listen to and I think we may have discovered a new favorite!
I purchased The Secret Garden as a way to introduce this famous book to my children, given Radio Theatre's excellent reputation for turning quality books into exciting radio performance. Two of my sons, aged 10 and 8, spent the last week listening to it in bed at night and have absolutely loved it. There was no trouble getting them to go to bed on those nights! My next step will be to read them the real book, and having engaged their interest in the story through the audiobook I know the classic will be much better received and understood. I thoroughly recommend anything produced by Radio Theatre.
It's a classic and it's radio theater. What more is there to say?
