I found this book a very easy read and very helpful. The chapters are short so it's easy to pick up during a busy day. Each time I did, it felt like a short meditation break. Nguyen combines several sources of mindfulness practices into one cohesive view that is effective and simple. I'd recommend it to people unfamiliar with mindfulness as well as those who've got more experience, because it's full of great reminders and fresh insights. If you follow the advice in the book, I think it will truly benefit you. It did for me! I plan on rereading this time to time to really internalize it. While there might be more nuanced and comprehensive books on the subject out there, it really is the simplicity of the concepts that make them so effective. Would recommend 👌

I haven't read a book since high school as I am not a book reader. In spring of 2024 I went through the worst time of my life and have since healed, as much as I can. Got this book in September and it definitely helped me a bit more as my biggest issue is thinking about the bad time in my life. I would recommend anyone read this book whether you are having a hard time or not. It can help anyone.

Well-Written and Succinct.

I finished this book in 5 days because it’s that good! It’s only around 94 pages, with summaries for another 20 or so pages, for reference. I am a chronic over thinker, which does lead to anxiety, stress, depression, and I didn’t know where to begin to start. This book actually showed me. And I cannot say I have ever experienced that before. Focusing on the past and future creates over-thinking, but focusing on the present puts one’s mind at ease. My favorite quote: “if you don’t overthink and truly let the answers surface from within you, without that thought, you will most likely feel happy, peaceful, free, and light.”

So simple, but LIFE CHANGING !

For such a small book, I can say I have had big changes in my life since I read it. Remember that feeling as a kid and waking up to a whole new day of adventures to plan for the day? When you get your self to a place of being present, or in the flow, life is like that of a child’s…no worries and no ego driving you and your thoughts. This is where I want to be…living in the present and not suffering due to my thoughts. I caught myself having negative thinking when I was sick with Covid recently and I changed my thinking to thought. It helped so much and I am back living in joy again! I am 61 years old and have struggled with depression for decades. This book, along with using some apps to meditate, has provided me with what I have been searching for all along. I am at peace with myself and I feel wonderful! People have commented to me that I seem so happy and that they love my energy. I’m not that shy and awkward person I used to be. Now I am confident and happy 😊.

Very Thought Provoking!

Which is realize is slightly ironic. This book was not what I expected but it is interesting. It invites a closer examination of metacognition and how our thoughts, thinking patterns, and world views influence our happiness.

I never written a review but have read many books I purchased from Amazon. I felt I wanted to share how insightful I found this book. It makes so much sense, it is easy to follow and there are so many moments of “wow I wish I knew this earlier.” I love how Joseph weaves psychology and philosophy together. It is truly very easy to stop believing your negative thoughts and start living a life you deserve in the present moment. Buy this book it is worth it!
