Written in his unique style, this book is Staton’s apologetic for prayer - not simply as a discipline, but as a lifestyle. He does it with beauty, vulnerability, grace, and levity. If you struggle with prayer, or a seasoned veteran, I would recommend this book either way.
Praying Like Monks… Is a marvelous read for those who really want to center their lives on God. It gives insight and practical steps to becoming a truly praying person.
This book uses the Lord's Prayer as its foundation and Staton builds an excellent narrative on it. No mater how far along you may be in the Christian faith, there is always more to learn about prayer. I honestly believe you cannot read too many books about prayer and you cannot practice prayer too much. This is an excellent one to add to your library.
Love this book because it is down to earth and makes prayer a very, very accessible part of your daily routine and worship. The author has "been there, done that" by exploring the very real life misunderstandings, resistance and awkwardness of prayer/praying. Good examples and exploration of the topic of prayer, but more importantly at the end of each chapter there are exercises to "DO SOMETHING" and not just talk about it or hope you get around to prayer and praying sometime. I highly recommend this book and have given several as gifts. Prayer is no long an "add on" to my every day life, but a joy and something I look forward to - which I thought I would never experience.
This book is so well written, down to earth and rich in example, encouragement and need for prayer. A worthwhile guide and handbook for the timid who are fearful of approaching the Lord, or feel the need to adopt a stilted, practiced prayer. There is wisdom for the seasoned prayer warrior, as well. This book is food for the hungry and thirsty soul of all believers . . . there is such strength in prayer!
Excellent book on the importance of prayer and how maybe we've gotten prayer wrong in the past.
One of my mentors recommended this book to me. She said that it changed her life when she read it. I ordered it that night, and I must agree. It is very important to incorporate prayer into your daily life. I struggle with this so this was another great resource to be able to do this.
This is a great book to challenge you in all areas, The purpose of prayer, the meaning of prayer how to pray while we pray. Very challenging and thought-provoking.
