This book is powerful. Powerful in its description of God’s Grace. Powerful in its delivery and imagery. Powerful in its conviction. The Lord gave His Grace to me, ME! And the only thing that I did to deserve it was sin. “I did the sinning and He did the saving!!”

Pastor Joby has a way of sharing the Gospel that makes it easy to understand. This book is fun too because of his many entertaining stories. Even if you are solid in your faith I would highly recommend reading this book as it will help you explain the Gospel to other people.

Anyone will tell you, if a book doesn’t “Grab you” in the first chapter or so, chances are you’ll lose interest. That will not be a problem with Run over by the Grace train. Pastor Joby Martin has a unique way of blending what I call “Southern redneck humor”, hilarious personal stories and biblical scripture to grab your attention from the very beginning. He constantly calls his self out as the “Worst black hearted sinner out there”. So, for those who have not given their life over to Christ, he lets them know, in no uncertain terms that they are good enough for God’s Grace and that it’s a Gift from God, not something they earn. By the end of chapter one, you will have a much clearer understanding of the Gospel and the Grace of Jesus Christ; and why, “There’s more Grace in Jesus, than there is sin in us”! This book will be the perfect Christmas present for that person in your life who has questions about what it means to except Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior & experience the unconditional love of God’s gift of Grace.

This is the third book Pastor Joby Martin has written with friend and collaborator, author Charles Martin (no relation) and is my favorite so far, probably because God's Grace is an inconceivable gift that is hard to wrap my head around. This book does a beautiful job of making it understandable and relatable. If you've ever heard Pastor Joby speak you will soon see (or hear) that he writes like he speaks, in plain language with a great deal of humanity and humor. In fact, he actually reads the audible version so if you want to hear his voice for real, get that version! While this book seems meant for those who have some understanding of the Christian faith, anyone can read this book and gain an understanding of the gift of God's Grace, a train that runs over and envelopes us in our heavenly Father's overwhelming forgiveness and affection. Pastor Joby sets the tone for the book in the prologue using a story about a panicky parent moment when he feared for his daughter who was near the top floor of a hotel that caught on fire. Nothing would keep him from running into the face of danger to save his girl. This is a picture of God's love for us. From the beginning of the book, he makes it clear that God pursues us and wants us and that we can do nothing to earn our way into heaven. We only need to surrender to his Lordship. Further, we can never be beyond redemption and salvation. One quote from the book that will stick with me is that,"There is more Grace in Jesus than sin in all of mankind for all time." Each chapter of the book explores a different aspect of Grace: Grace Saves; Grace Can't Be Lost. And Neither Can You; Grace Sanctifies Both the Rebel and the Religious; and so on. It is choked full of scripture references and explains and relates the scriptures to us today. You will find your self highlighting many quotes and stories. I will return to this book again and again to remind myself of God's Amazing Grace.

Joby Martin and Charles Martin did it again. They present the truth of the gospel chapter after chapter in ways that are relatable, clear, and through tears and laughter I ended up on my knees in awe that Jesus saved me. Their use of constant bible references allows the reader to constantly be reminded that this is not just a good story, it’s the truth of the Bible. I have known Jesus my whole life and I grew up in church and youth group. I was taught that my good behavior made God happy, and my sin made God mad. I grew up feeling that God’s mood was determined by my behavior. This book reminds me that “Jesus plus nothing equals salvation”. My behavior is in response to God’s love end approval of me, not the other way around. I highly recommend this book!

Pastor Joby has a knack for relatability. As his wife says, we are all terrible listeners that’s why he tells so many stories, which we can relate to. This book was a great read that was insightful, relatable, engaged with humor, and an easy read for a wide audience. His blending of scripture with personal stories, makes it all so relatable and interesting to dive into. Pastor Joby can take the most complex theology and break it down into relatable language for the average Christian. Overall this is a great read for anyone who feels overwhelmed by life’s struggles, and just needs that constant reminder that Grace is always available, even in the most broken world, it can transform into something beautiful.

Run Over by the Grace Train was a powerful and refreshing reminder of the grace and love afforded to me by Jesus. Growing up, I didn’t often hear about the love and grace of Jesus, and this book brought those beautiful truths to life in a way that felt both personal and profound. One of the things I appreciated most was how relatable and easy to understand the writing is. Sprinkled throughout the book are moments of humor that keep the tone light and engaging, without ever detracting from the depth of the message. This book was not only a great reminder but also an invitation to rest in the freedom that comes with God’s grace. It showed me again that grace isn’t just a distant theological concept, but a daily gift from Jesus that transforms our lives. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to reconnect with or better understand the boundless love and grace of Christ.
