Among the twenty include a warning to be aware of how symbols used today could affect tomorrow (“4: Take responsibility for the face of the world”), an urgent reminder to research everything for yourself and to the fullest extent (“11: Investigate”), a point to use personalized and individualized speech rather than clichéd phrases for the sake of mass appeal (“9: Be kind to our language”), and more. In this graphic edition, Nora Krug draws from her highly inventive art style in Belonging —at once a graphic memoir, collage-style scrapbook, historical narrative, and trove of memories—to breathe new life, color, and power into Snyder’s riveting historical references, turning a quick-read pocket guide of lessons into a visually striking rumination.

This book should be required reading in high school as well as college for all students regardless of social or religious preferences.
Its the substance of proactive attitude, that every living democracy appreciating person should know and practise. The Manual for decent people, how to try to preserve decency and normality in this turbulent time. Please read it and act. The very great thanks to the Writer and Illustrator.
First, let me say that the book itself (I bought the new illustrated version) is beautiful. Intertwined with the authors views on the root causes of of tyranny you can find a respite of lovely illustrations that will allow you to reflect on his words. I happen to agree with the author on the majority of his points, as will the majority of people who took their basic civics classes seriously. Consider this to be a refresher course in democracy and why we should fight against tyranny. I found the presentation to be pleasant, unlike some of the more negative reviews I have read. If you just want the facts presented, then buy the cheaper, paperback version or find a used copy. Either way, it is an important book. One that should be read and understood by every American. This is the type of book that you will gladly loan to friends who, in turn, will likely buy their own copy.
I gave a copy of On Tyranny graphic edition to my 14 yr old grandson, to be his civic armor. His intellectual sword and shield against lazy reporting, or media manipulation by authoritarian actors. These lessons from recent world history are invaluable self-protection. We're all swimming in disinformation and media manipulation. "News" coming via biased silos of varying honesty. Deep fakes, video, photos and audio challenge our ability to discern the truth. We just learned from its then-publisher that our biggest supermarket tabloid had a secret deal from 2015 to publish positive stories about one politician (Trump), to kill negative stories about him, and to literally MAKE UP and publish negative stories about his opponents including Cruz, Rubio, and Hillary Clinton. We know that unfriendly state actors have interfered in multiple elections around the world including here. With Civics missing from too many schools these days, arm yourself and your family with eyes open to the ways of manipulation, so they (and you) can discern and resist subtle but pernicious attempts to sway their thinking.
Fascinated by the historical parallels to the present. Loved the illustrations, the font, the colors, the size of the letters. Frightened by the message!
Purchased this book for my pastor. The art work is real good.
Bought multiple copies to give away.
The photos used in this book really add, but the ideas and thoughts expressed here are so important. Everyone should read it. it’s a quick read, but very thought-provoking. It laid the foundation for my understanding of today’s political situation.
