About This Book

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Most fairytales end with a wedding and a happily-ever-after—but this is no fairytale. The first volume of the official webcomic based on the hit webnovel by Suji Kim. When stuttering Lady Maximilian is forced to marry Sir Riftan, a lowborn knight caught in one of her father’s schemes, her stumbling communication and his gruff manner sour their relationship before it can begin.

Riftan leaves for war the morning after their disastrous wedding night, and it’s three years before Maxi sees him again. Now, the husband she barely knows is a war hero. And when he comes home to claim her, Maxi will need to master her own bewildering desire—and Riftan’s—before she can hope to become the true mistress of their enormous castle estate.

That task will demand courage from Maxi, even as she struggles to find her own voice. This volume collects episodes 1-24 of Under the Oak Tree , the #1 webcomic on MANTA.

Ahhhhhhh!!!!! I finally have my hands on a copy!!!! I am so excited to add this to my physical library. This comic is literally, THE REASON, I got into webcomics! I kept seeing ads, videos and posts about this series when I finally checked it and I'm SO glad I did 😁 Maxi and Riftan are a beautiful couple -- and so awkward at times that it's painfully cute, and sometimes makes my heart ache with what they both have been through. Maxi has suffered from the abuse and neglect of her father and other nobles for years with no one to turn to and is then used as a pawn by marrying Riftan, a commoner who rose through the ranks to become a fearsome commander of knights for the realm and eventually a war hero. At this point in time, we don't have a lot of concrete info about Riftan's history, as the majority of the story is from Maxi's perspective, but seeing as how he treats her with respect and has a fierce passion and desire for Maxi, I am confident in saying he loves her more than life itself. But poor Maxi -- she is so mentally hurt that it takes a long time for her to come to realize that this new chapter in her life means it's going to get much better! What bothers me most is how a lot of the knights - Riftan has also done this once or twice - assume she was extremely pampered and spoiled living in the Capital and she has certain expectations on how life should be for someone of her status. I hope she reveals one day what really happened to her while she lived with her father to Riftan. ❤️ I will say, she's not YET a strong female protagonist - but she definitely has the makings for it (I'm cheering for you everyday, Maxi!!! 🎉🙌🎉🙌🎉🙌) I can't wait for the next volume ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ *And the novel version looks AWESOME too!! Will be adding that to my collection soon! #romantasy #romance #historicalromance #fantasy #webcomic #webnovel #RiftanLovesMaxi #MaxiLovesRiftan

Got my book yesterday and though I haven't sat down to read it fully (I've been reading it online), I did flip through it and read here and there for a QC check. For anyone curious, and maybe this is a spoiler?, it ends right as some unwelcome, hostile idiots show up, so if you're only reading the book, it's a cliffhanger. I'm pretty sure it stops at S1E24. If it matters to anyone, it's printed in China. It's a hefty thing and well made. The binding wasn't so tight that it was hard to open, but I don't know if it will lay flat. I generally don't test my books like that because I want them to last. There's no slip cover, so I'll probably make my own or get a fancy clear one to protect the corners from rubbing off. The print quality is really nice, but the colors seem muted or softer somehow than the online version; I'm sure it has something to do with the conversion between digital and print. It's not bad, just different. It kinda makes it feel cozy, if that makes any sense. Rather than the vertical nature of the online comic, this is set up to be read horizontally, like a regular comic. It was a little jarring to go from the vertical format to the normal book format, but they're able to fit more on a page that way, and it was quick to get used to. Whoever designed the book did a fantastic job because from page to page, the flow of the art is really well done. The entire thing is start to finish full of art, from the cover, to the interior work on the cover, to the pages themselves. There are a few pages in the back that show sketch work, and a lead in page for the next volume (that doesn't exist yet). I'm assuming sales will determine when the next volume is out, since there's enough online already to support another one, much less probably easily three more. And holy moly, is it something else to see everything on something larger than a phone screen! If you're not mentally prepared to see Riftan and his bare chest on an entire page (I'm looking at you, first frame of S1E2), uh, you're going to get an eyeful. LOL. Because of the size of the images, admiring the details of all the dresses and background art is a lot easier, so I appreciate it! TLDR: A beautiful book, worth the cost and the bookshelf space!

Sooo excited to have this!!!

Ever since this released in Manta I’ve been looking for this in physical print. I was so excited to get it finally! The comic covers everything from the series up through season 1 episode 24. The book is larger than normal manga, nice thick glossy pages and beautiful colored pages. The only thing I was disappointed with was that some of the large pictures were cropped down (like Maxie and Riftan in the barn with the fire stone). Some pages were a bit crowded too and took away from the glorious art but otherwise it was still beautiful. Can’t wait for the chapter book and the other books of the series. Highly highly recommend. One of my favorite fantasy romances.

Perfect 🥰
