Do better Dark Horse

This is not a review for the series, but the product I received. To start with what's good; presentation wise I really like it, the faux red leather and gold lettering is eye catching and looks really nice. I'm not sure how well the gold color may wear over time though. The paper quality seems quite good too, on the thicker side, and the large size of the pages benefits Nightow's chaotic, detailed action style really well. As for the not so good, others have already pointed out the issues with the translation and it's really a shame. It's not that this volume needed a complete new translation really, but it definitely needed proofreading. With the long delays in the release and vague assurances from Dark Horse about making this edition "the best it could be" it's just headscratching that basic editing of a 20 year old translation known for errors was something that apparently couldn't be bothered with. From mistranslated names and some clunky, awkward sentences, to other inaccuracies (the planet was never named Gunsmoke and that misinformation is a bit misleading for new readers when the naming of the planet is a plot point later). It's not that it's unreadable, but with these issues how is this "the best it can be", Dark Horse? I would like to hope that the publisher would listen to people's feedback on this and put in a little effort to proof the rest of the series, but I'm not terribly optimistic. However I am a completionist collector and I've been waiting all this time to add Trigun to the collection, so it seems an unfortunate case of having to take what I can get and that really shouldn't have to be the case.

Beautiful book! But could have been packed better

The book is large, has a smoother cover, beautiful gold embossed lettering, and the pages are crisp, easy to easy, and legible. The book also comes with a ribbon to mark your place, and a paper that works as an information page for a book. Absolutely gorgeous. I look forward to the rest of the collection. Only issue was it appears it was only loosely wrapped in some paper bag papers, and it seems to have received a small ding which thankfully is barely noticeable. Hopefully they pack the rest of these better, but after waiting for this on Backorderfor so long, I am just so excited to have it at last! I look forward to the rest of the series, which I have also pre-ordered. 😍

Falls flat after multiple delays

Considering the extremely delayed release of this, I guess I just expected more? I was an OG fan back in the day and I have the original books and loved them, and this should have been a stunning modern adaptation, but instead it is plagued with bad translations and a serious lack of proofreading that is utterly lackluster and disappointing. The gold lettering on the cover does not stand up and came already pre-mussed just from the plastic wrap and movement during shipping, so I’m not optimistic on how long it’ll last. When compared to other leather bound hardcover manga editions, it really lacks. I’m only glad I got my preorder in early when this was still cheaper than it is now, I would not be happy to pay current full price for this product.

Beautiful presentation but completely messy translation—may very well be returning

First off I wanna say that I love the physical quality of the product; it's beautifully constructed and the art looks great. But unfortunately, despite *massive* delays, I'm greatly disheartened to see the original (and very poorly done) translation is still being used. There wasn't even an effort to go through and make sure that characters had correct names or that the grammar was actually correct. I was really looking forward to this and was happy to wait with the delays, so I'm very disappointed in the final outcome. I will probably be returning this and will be canceling my upcoming orders for the rest of the series unless there is a guarantee in quality.

It's finally here and worth the wait

I pre-ordered this back in May 2023 and honestly forgot I did but it finally released and found its way to my porch this afternoon and it's everything I wanted. It's a very nice (and heavy) deluxe book from Dark Horse and I'm excited to dive into it tonight. It has a little under 700 pages and includes full-color cover art for the volumes at the back end of the book.
